Why was Roy Jones Jr. never an Boxing Super Star?

    what I mean by that is a multi million ppv giant and tv figure like sugar ray leonard, oscar de la hoya, manny pacquiao to name a few.

    with an body more athletic than anybody before and after him and skills not human like, how did it happen he never got the real big baannnnngggggg!?

    DelLa Hoya was surrounded by big names, Roy was not.

    He is still a superstar though.

    Because Roy did what Floyd has done many times in his fights - has a chance to finish the guy in 3-4 rounds, but chooses to carry the guy for 12 boring rounds.

    Roy was a superstar. In the 90s.

    Then he shot that stupid rap video and then he became a cruiserweight journeyman. Kind of pissed on his legacy.

    He avoided the big fights (all be it there werent that many at the weight at that time) the only names on his scalp are hopkins and toney, people still make a big deal about the ruiz fight as if it means anything

    No, he really wasn't a superstar outside of the hiphop and sporting community. He was on the verge of it, but never made it to the Leonard/Ali/Foreman/Duran or even Mayweather heights. He made his opponents look so pedestrian the press questioned his level of competition unfairly, I believe. He never had that "rival" or "big fight" during his prime to elevate his status. It could've been Toney, but he beat him so convincingly it ended up working against him.

    Also, Jones had personality, but not the kind that generates controversy (a la Floyd), so he was really generally kept out of the public limelight.

    So, a combination of things, really.
