Watching the fight last night, IMO, Condit should give Kampmann a shot if GSP really can't fight. It's a great incentive for Carlos as well to avenge his last defeat.
Kampmann in my opinion needs to do a lot more to get a shot, I'd have quiet a few people ahead of him to get at Condit.
IMO Kampmann's recent run of Sanchez (clear win IMO) Story and Alvez is enough to get him a shot against Condit. If you think he beat Shields as well, that's an impressive run, including the fact he beat Condit a few years back and I think the fight makes sense. He's well-rounded, comes to strike and has major flaws in his defence, so there's no reason to think he and Condit wouldn't match up well at this stage of their respective careers. Kampmann pulled it out the bag late last night. Ellenberger did not finish strong against Sanchez, so I'm not sold on him bringing much to the table over 5 rounds. However, he did have Condit in all sorts of trouble in their fight, and brings strength and immense knockout power into the equation. I think Condit should defend the 'interim' championship rather than wait, so either one of them is fine. I'd prefer Ellenberger to take another fight before he's ready, the winner of Koscheck-Hendricks would be perfect IMO.
He has great technique, but not much power at all. If he ever knocks anyone out it'll be because he set up a head kick and catches someone or surprises someone with a knee like last night. I could see giving Kampman the Shields fight too. I think that might be enough to get him a shot at Condit if they don't want to wait for GSP to be healthy.
This is what I want to see, too. I think Condit will just wait. I haven't seen the Condit/Kampmann fight in a while, but I recall scoring it for Condit.
Makes sense, both guys are now in the mix and need fights to keep busy while they wait out the current situation . The winner should get the next shot for sure.
yup. Alvez was beating Kampmann like a cheap ***** before he inexplicably dove in on him. Kampmann should have to fight Ellenberger.
I'm generally in favour of champions being able to avenge their losses if the fight makes any kind of sense. I think that avenging defeats is very important for a fighter's legacy. Condit is the interim champ and Kampmann has put himself in a position where a rematch with Condit would be a nice placeholder. Condit would be expected to win, which would scrub a defeat from his record and give him a boost before GSP comes back. :hat
Alves' stock took a bit of a drop after losing to Fitch and Story. It's a very good win for Kampmann, but not enough to warrant an immediate shot at one of the division's top couple of fighters. Kampmann needs to face someone like Ellenberger or Fitch next, or maybe rematch Shields or Diego.
Dana and most of us want to see the Interim Welterweight Champion in Condit, fight the proper Welterweight Champion in GSP. But due to how long it will be before GSP is ready, Condit needs to fight again. Condit should be able to beat Kampmann this time round, in fact I think it would be a safe fight for Condit and it then doesn't jeopardise the Condit vs GSP fight. Throw in that Kampmann has a win against Condit and that is why this would work. Ellenberger or whoever, can then fight the winner of GSP and Condit or maybe Diaz if he is back in action then.
