I've recently begun rewatching some of the long-running Hajime no Ippo series. Most boxers inside it are remixed bags of traits of famous boxers. One such boxer -- Kobashi -- is based on Maxie Rosenbloom.

Even though the author gets some things wrong sometimes, there's so much love for boxing in this show. Like a love letter to boxing, almost. I'm almost positive that whatever bug we've got, he's got.

For people that like to try it out. I recommend it.

Hajime no Ippo is the ****.

Ippo is Tyson with his Peek a boo style, speed and power

Mashiba is Hearns with his flicker jab and chopping right

Sendou is Marciano with his unbelievably strong punches/will/stamina

Hayami is De la hoya with his good looks and financial backing

    Saeki is.... Meldrick and Camacho?

One of Takamura's opponents later -- the "correct boxer" named Eagle or something was actually based off of Oscar de la Hoya. And Hawke was Naseem Hamed, iirc.

Hayami's move "the shotgun" seemed to be based on Ali's finishing barrage against Mildenberger.

So many moves like that in the anime -- Gazelle Punch(Patterson), Smash(Ruddock) , Jolt (Dempsey) and many more.

Forgot about Hawk, what a ****ing battle that was.

Ricardo Martinez is obviously based on Ricardo Lopez.

He timed the Dempsey roll perfectly and ****ed up Ippo big time with just his jab.

Didn't Hayami end up having a glass jaw?

    I think Kobayshi cracked it.

    Do you read the Manga?

Haha, yeah, the manga is better than the anime, but I haven't seen it in five years, so rewatching some of them. I expected it to be a mild letdown, but it's actually really good.

Ricardo Martinez was, looks wise, based on Zarate.

Jimmy Sisphar is apparently Khaosai Galaxy.

Great series. The PS2 game Victorious Boxers II would be the best boxing game I've ever played, only everyone had a horrific glass jaw and you could never do more than two rounds

One of my greatest achievements; knocking out Takamura playing as Martinez on the wii version. Had to work for it!
