    Rose vs. Harada
    Fenech vs. Nelson I
    Taylor vs. McGirt

If dominance isn't a criterion, fights like:

    Duran vs. Leonard I
    Harada vs. Jofre I
    Gavilan vs. Graham III
    Laguna vs. Ortiz I

Are all these performances being mentioned actually better, or just as good as ?

Can't really get better. It's a+. Not the only one in the tier though. Although not as many as some of these guys are saying imo.

How could it not be a factor though, as a performance? Jones is almost unhittable whilst landing a dizzying array of punches against a world class opponent.

  8. Pacquiao - Barerra
    Ali - Williams, Liston
    Mayweather - Marquez, Corrales
    Whitaker - Chavez
    Dempsey - Willard
    Tyson - Berbick
Not saying these are better but just awesome

I honestly dont think there is a better performance when considering, domination of opposition, quality of opposition, greatness of opposition.

Come on Bill. Outflurrying a plodding C-class fighter for a 12 round decision should be nowhere near a thread discussing the greatest performances ever captured on film.

Gomez/Yum is the most aesthetically pleasing schooling I've ever seen. Then again I'm pretty sure I've made these thoughts known. Not as impressive given the quality of the opponent, though.

I agree it should be a factor, but at the same time, I wouldn't lay a lot of emphasis on it without considering the context.

For example, I'd call Duran vs. Leonard I a better performance by Duran than Roy versus Toney any day of the week, and I had Duran winning that fight by a point or two.

I think we have to consider the level of the opponent and not just their name, but their actual level of performance in that fight.

Yes Toney is a brilliant fighter, but he was not in the best shape that night and pretty much gave a horrible performance.

Just to exaggerate my point, Hector Camacho vs. Jose Luis Ramirez is not a better performance than Whitaker vs. Chavez, even though Camacho won via a wider card.

Just to add more controversy to the topic, I'd say Hearns' performance in losing to Ray Leonard was better than Roy's too.

Meldrick Taylor's against Chavez as well.

It just so happened that their opponents that night also put up magnificent efforts, as opposed to Toney, who sucked.

And yes, I am cognisant of the fact that Roy made Toney suck to quite an extent in that fight.
