Did Roy Jones start losing at LHW when his competition stepped up?
Looking at Jones big LHW names and match ups (only LHW)

McCallum - had recently been beaten by Tiozzo
Griffin - was a novice with no great LHW wins. Dont say Toney who had a terrible SMW and LHW resume and did nothing at LHW
Hill - was coming off a loss to Michalczewski

Tarver - was on a good run and pushed Jones then beat him in the rematch
Johnson - Was on a good run and beat Jones
    Tarver - beats Jones again
But Jones then has a run of 3 convincing wins against similar opposition to the Fraziers, Kellys etc and looks just as good.
Calzaghe - On a good run schools Jones
Then Jones has 2 fights at his old level and looked as good as before
Hopkins - now LHW champ beats Jones when he stepped up again

So was Jones a great LHW and just got old, or was he never a great LHW and just exposed when he stepped up

Probably should have dropped to Cruiser and fought Tony after Ruiz.
Please just shut the **** up with all this shite though mate. Sometimes you make good points and I'm sure you'll have some boxrec stats which you feel backs this ridiculous argument up but get down a boxing gym, learn the sport and grow up too.

i think you've hit the nail on the head. its a combination of jones being found out for taking banned anabolic steroids and fighting as a clean fighter for the 1st time in his career and jones finally stepping up his level opposition as a clean fighter.

Barely. Jones was magnificent until he dropped back down in weight and lost his speed, reflexes and chin so quickly that even old Roy doesn't know what the **** happened.

    Such a ****ing shame.

Well Headbanger, im just analysing a fighter at a certain weight division.
I havent seen Jones doing well when stepped up at LHW (though wont dismiss any opinions). Tarver was a bit of a step up in that he really believed he could beat Jones and was on a fair winning run

It was close, but can you tell me another LHW that Jones had beaten who was on a good winning run in world class and not recently beaten?
Gonzalez hadnt stepped up at that time, and R Johnson had been found a few times previously

think richard hall was the fighter that roy finally tested positive for banned steroids whist fighting at 175.

if you trace roys level of competition from this point onwards, it was absolutely terrible, an embarrassment to the sport of boxing. when roy finally stepped up his competition as a clean fighter, this is when roy got badly exposed.

the lack of steroids in roy system probably slowed down his reflexes a little, and in turn that lead to roy being exposed for having p4p one of the worst glass jaws in boxing.
