Why shouldn't it? Because he lost?

Watch the fight, even from the first round, Roy still looks sharp to an extent, quick hands and he was able to tag Tarver regularly. His glass jaw got exposed by a good shot, and from then on his career spiralled, however the Tarver 2 fight is a legit loss.

Jones beat Harding after Harding beat Tarver. They were all C+-B- level fighters against an A+ fighter. If Roy had fought Tarver before fighting Ruiz, he would have embarrassed him in typical Roy fashion.

and Glen Johnson wasn't on a roll.

He was 2-2-2 in the 2 years before the Jones fight. The same journeyman fighter he had always been.

Shot? No, but he had clearly lost a step or two, which typically happens to athletes in their mid 30s. After that KO, though, he was completely shot - Slow and gunshy, and he was never able to change his style enough to compensate for what he'd lost.

I typed that wrong and corrected it, sorry. Roy was still a great fighter in the 2nd Tarver fight. He just got caught by a perfect punch and was KO'd..That punch finished Roy at world class level.

and Roy didn't have a glass jaw before that fight. Watch the bombs he ate from the same Tarver in the first fight...or the shots he ate in the first Montell Griffin fight. He could take a punch before.

roy didn't have to be gunshy versus calzaghe. roy selected calzaghe because he knew that joes persistant hand troubles had left him feather fisted, which in turn lead to the match up being purely a battle of skills. this is why so many respected people in boxing tipped roy jones on home territory to beat joe calzaghe.

Jones relied so much on his athletic ability and he never truly learned the fundamentals. As soon as his reflexes slowed a bit, he was done. He didn't have solid technique to fall back on.

Some fighters get old seemingly overnight. I think Jones fits this profile, particularly because he did not prepare himself for the inevitable decline in skills by learning his craft.

Jones, at his peak, was amazing. About the fight with Johnson, he got real old real fast. Just about any good fighter could KO him.

I love how RJJ haters downplay Toney so they can downplay RJJ. It's like a chain reaction of hate that dismiss an ATG fighter with iron chin.
