I don't see why this is such a mystery. There's proof of fighters who are born with power and those who improve under technique
I dont know how true it is (and i voted born!) but I once read or heard somewhere that Tommy Hearns wasnt a noted puncher as an amateur. Anyone have his amateur record stats?
Natural ability and technique. If anybody here thinks you can go from featherfisted to being a big puncher by lifting weights, taking supplements, etc. then I'd love to know the magical formula that so many professional boxers have never even tried.
I think Emanuel said that Tommy was NOT a puncher in the amateurs but with technique he developed (or more like took advantage of) his power.
I remember hearing the same in a Manny Steward interview. He kind of said he helped him unleash it like it was in him already.
If Mike Tyson had never trained or took up boxing, he'd never have had the knock out potential. Timing + accuracy + speed + power You can improve all of these. But some have far more potential than others.
