Prospect Paddy giving boxing his all By David Statham: Undefeated boxing prospect Paddy Connors is fired-up for his second fight. The well-supported former amateur talent, who swapped punches as a professional fighter for the first time in October, returns to the ring on March 11, in Leicester. The Chesterfield-based boxer put in a near-faultless performance last year when he widely outpointed Doncaster veteran James Tucker over six rounds. And the light-heavyweight contender, who had 130 fans at his debut fight, is in the middle of an intense training camp, putting in the groundwork as he aims for a repeat of his winning start. Next week the 20-year-old steps between the ropes to face Lincolnshires hardened professional Jody Meikle, an opponent who has shared the ring with a number of the sports rising talents, including Commonwealth Games Gold medallist Callum Johnson. Counter-punching Paddy, who trains at Huthwaite Boxing Club with manager Scott Calow, said: Im really looking forward to this fight. Ive heard Jodys a tough lad, hes had about 16 fights and hes only been stopped once, so he can take some punches. If I can stop him inside the distance it will be good. He explained: On my debut I didnt go in there to knockout my opponent. My trainer told me to go in there and box and said if I do get in a situation where I think I can stop him then to try my best. But I just stuck to my game plan and I didnt lose a round. I dont think he wanted to fight me really. He just backed off and he only really landed two punches on me. But he was very experienced and he knew what to do when I was putting pressure on him. It was good, though, because I needed the experience. I needed to know that I could do the six-rounds. In preparation for this fight, Paddy has been following a gruelling training regime, working out three times a day, with the sessions beginning at 7.30am. He has also been visiting various boxing gyms around the country, getting tough sparring against accomplished opponents, such as Bulwells British cruiserweight champion Shane McPhilbin, who also used to box at the Pro/Am Huthwaite gym. Paddy revealed he has given up work to dedicate himself to prizefighting full-time. He said: Im taking boxing very seriously. I want to go as far as I can in this sport. By the end of this year or by the beginning of next year I want to be a Midlands Area champion or a Masters champion, then hopefully go on to fight for the Irish championship. Its obviously very hard to become a world champion in boxing, but if I can be a world champion Im going to try my best to get there.

Winner of Fury and Rogan could be in world title frame? http://www.irish-boxing.com/2012/03/could-the-winner-of-rogan-fury-be-in-world-title-frame/
-------------- Sorry to go off topic a bit - but I can explain that. There were many Russian Orthodox Jew's who were scammed by Russian sea captains at the turn of the century. What happened was the ships captain would trick them into thinking they had arrived in America when in actual fact they were in Cork. They didn't know the difference. Then the sea captains would double their income by picking up the Irish and continuing on to the US. The Jewish people who came here had very little English and managed to get by on their crafts. Apparently they were excellent at glass works / repairs and some of them had good tailoring skills. Anyway like all visitors to this country, some of them had a negative experience with our own but most were treated well and made good livings for themselves. A lot of Jewish families unfortunately changed their legal names to Irish ones. Interesting history though.
sure there was a part of the city down by pairc ui chaoimh called jewtown upto about 20 30 years back
Sure, wasn't there a jewish lord mayor of Dublin at one point? Dublin has always been a very diverse city, relatively speaking.
To be fair, I think either of them would put up more of a fight than mormeck or haye even. Certainly, if kevin "kingpin" Johnson earned a title shot, they're more than worthy.
Is anyone showing the Lee fight this weekend? Ormond fight will be a close 1. With it being up in Scotland I think Ormond needs a KO or to win all the rounds big to get the win. Think he needs to be pushed along a good bit this year. Would love to see him and Liam Walsh fight some time soon. If he beats Appleby then maybe his next fight. Sadly I cant see FW putting that fight on for a long time.
