Interesting, good to know...I have nothing against Lacy.....I remember watching him against Penberton and wow, I can remember how I was impressed !
Corrales in the top 5 sounds very weird, too high IMO....but even so, I would rate Corrales higher than Lacy in almost every moment in that decade.....

Top 5 is too high....but top 10 would be very reasonable IMO.....

Corrales was seen as a Louis/Arguellesque killer back then, completely dominant and blowing everyone out the water. Undefeated, destroying an undefeated champ in Garcia, bludgening Manfredy in 3 who had beaten Gatti for the IBF title, went through future FW champ Gainer like a knife through butter, amongst wins over gatekeeper level contenders. He looked like a man fighting boys

HE was considered the reason that Hamed didn't want to move upto 130, although Hamed had come up from Super Fly himself and was a midget. Personally I would have Hamed over Corrales at that time as he had achieved more, Morales hadn't done that much at this stage, he had won a controversial win over MAB, MAB had 3 losses, you could make a case for either over Corrales but it was close at that time and neither were so dominant. Stevie Johnson was a brilliant boxer the division above but had just lost in a razor thin fight to Castillo. Vargas had just been ko'd by Trinidad. DLH was coming off 2 losses to Trinidad and Mosley. Calzaghe's comp was generally fighters coming off losses although he probably could have been top10 for this period. Tyszu and Hopkins had yet to unify but both had a case to be above Corrales. Lennox could have been there after everything he'd done but was a HW

Still not nearly as good an opponent as Toney. Legend X is right about current ratings having a hyperbole but hindsight is 50-50

In 2000 (when Corrales was ranked top 5) you had these guys around:

    Roy Jones
    Oscar De la Hoya
    Felix Trinidad
    Shane Mosley
    Lennox Lewis
    Kostya Tszyu
    Marco Antonio Barrera
    Erik Morales
    Bernard Hopkins
    Fernando Vargas
    Stevie Johnston
    Ricardo Lopez

(Not to mention the likes of Floyd Mayweather, Vernon Forrest, Winky Wright, Joe Calzaghe, Ike Quartey, Dariusz Michelczewski).

Top 20 would have been more realistic.

Like Livingstone Bramble in the 80's, Corrales got super-hyped because of his fan-firendly style when he was never actually p4p material.

P4P is 'what have you done for me lately' type of ranking combined with the sum part of your careers, it's never been who is probably the best at any given moment. DLH had just picked 2 losses but was still there, Vargas had just lost to Trinidad, Tyszu and BHOPs hadn't unified, Forrest hadn't yet beaten Mosley, Stevie J had just lost, Winky hadn't yet got any big wins, Quartey was back in semi-retirement after a Vargas loss, Barrera had just lost controversially and had the 2 losses to Junior Jones, Morales hadn't really done more than Corrales

European/none Americans like Calzaghe/Darius do seem pretty underrated by The Ring though. You could certainly make a case though that certain promoters cash cows got looked after in their rankings though

In other words, it's a complete load of nonsense and purely intended for hype purposes.

P4P rankings are nearly as bad in picking the best fighters as pop charts are in picking the best music at any one time.

One thing in particular that always irked me with p4p rankings is the tendency to dismiss guys as soon as they have a loss, irrespective of who it was to or how it came about. I mean, I'll be damned if Corrales was a better fighter than Vargas in 2000, and because of the loss to Trinidad, Vargas was no where to be seen on the p4p charts.
