This is all just a late power play for extra money by Gamboa.

If he truly had a beef with Top Rank/Arena, why didn't he raise the "no contract" issue when they announced the fight?
No, instead he waited until it was announced, tickets went on sale and press conferences were set up.
He even went so far as to give Top Rank a list of people who would be traveling with him to the press conferences for travel accomodations.

This is a big screw you to everyone involved from Gamboa who has Floyd whispering in his ear and decided to hold the promotion hostage at the last possible moment thinking it would give him more leverage to demand more money.
He knows he has a valid promotional contract with Top Rank/Arena and admitted it in his press release.

Screw him. I hope they sue him for breach of contract and charge him the $40K they spent on the press conferences.

Why would you show up to a press conference of a fight you haven't signed on to accept?

What you are writing is illogical.

i knew it was only a matter of time before a toprank shill got in here and put their spin on things. pitiful.

nothing happens without a contract. that is business 101. toprank has pulled that stunt far too many times. gamboa is doing what any normal business person would do.

If there was a press conference scheduled and promotional merchandise made Gamboa must have agreed to something.. Why didn't he announce before hand that he wasn't going to show up? Why have Brandon Rios, the media and he's own fans all show up for nothing? **** Gamboa!

Whatever. I'm a pissed off fan who bought tickets to the fight and made travel arrangements.

    But, just answer the question.
If he truly had a legal beef:
Why would he not speak up at the time the fight was announced.
Why would he not speak up at the time ticketst went on sale and allow all of his fans to buy tickets, make travel arrangements, etc to the fight?
Why would he give all his travel information to Top Rank about people that would be attending the press conferences?

    The answers pretty much are:
    1) He doesn't give a crap about his fans
    2) He doesn't really have a legal leg to stand on and he is trying to hold the promotion hostage by blackmailing them for more money.

He had plenty of opportunities to raise this issue before now. Instead he took the cowards way out and decided to just no show.

No it doesn't mean he agreed to anything. The fact is nothing should have been done promotionally and announced to the public if the paper work and contracts weren't signed. Seeing that Top Rank hasn't said that he is in violation of his contract, all signs point to him being correct.

The people in the wrong are the promoters for going on with the event and lying to the public, knowing they didn't even have one fighter signed.

Gamboa is acting perfectly professionally, Top Rank is the one acting like amateurs.

"The Cuban dynamo maintains that he hasn’t signed a contract to fight Rios, THE RING’s No. 1-rated lightweight. Todd duBoef, President of Top Rank, which promotes Rios and co-promotes Gamboa with Arena-Box Promotions, told the assembled L.A. media that Gamboa had “agreed to the economic principle” of the match on Feb. 16.

It’s common in professional boxing for the official contracts of a bout to remain unsigned until long after the matchup has been announced, sometimes until the week of the fight. However, the fighters customarily sign a bout agreement that details basic terms of the deal – including how much they are to be paid."

Well then maybe that p.o.s. should have said something when the fight was first announced instead of just no showing the press conference like a little *****. Like I said before **** Gamboa; There is no defending this ****, I don't care how much you love Floyd and hate Top Rank.
