Fighting in range and moving away

Does have anyone a general rule of thumb for when you should cover up and stand your ground when under attack and when you should move off?

 

That seems like something that everyone has to work out for themselves through experience.

 

Covering up can be good like RJJ does to get his opponents to waste energy going to the body. Floyd is also similar when guys put him on the ropes, "He stopped moving, I can start hitting him!"

I got outworked badly on the inside a couple times because I stopped throwing shots.

I constantly throw the jab because it takes me no energy to use. You should always be aggressive during the rounds you want to win (IMO) because when you stop punching, your opponent will start punching back.

The times to not punch so much, I don't know. Seems like good or better defense would help me work this out.

That's exactly how I lost my last fight. I covered up and bobbed and weaved while he threw punches in bunches, even if only a few landed thats a few more than I landed. If I could take it back, I would have moved off immediately and established distance again.

 

stay in range, cover up with double deck and count his shots.

if he throws jab,left hook, right hook, there is 75% chance that his 4th shot will be left hand again, so reflect his left hand and counter with your right, and move out of range with blind jab. that is example what you could do. i am trying to practice this, to count his shots, try to read next and counter.

 

You stand and cover when you are going to unleash counters on him, if your just going to stand and get beat on then that's when you need to be moving, you never stand and cover and take 5 or more shots that is ******ed let your hands go or move your feet.
