BTW, not suggesting Vorasingh was one of the best Thai's, only that there is no footage of him and he attained a level of success. Such a shame no footage of Borkorsor Vs Gonzalez or Salavarria though. He also had a shootout with dangerous Mexican Guerrero and beat Cabanela, who was coming off a loss to Ohba (so another top contenders scalp) As for Venice Vs Ohba, I think Borkorsor would've exposed Ohba's deficiencies, and the battles of jabs would be awesome...but then I would say that wouldn't I? ;-)
:good Hey.....this guy here, Den Muangsurin...Do you know if he was relative to Saensak or something ? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sgglG-d788[/ame] These thai names are confusing to me.....it´s tough to be familiar with them. Check out the name of this 140lb from Lumpinee : Superball Lookjaomaesaivaree....I´m good with Superball, but damn this last name I can´t spell at all......
Maybe Boranbkk can confirm but I think Muangsurin was a gym, and it may have something to with Surin, a place in Thailand?? I think it's where Tony Jaa is from
Wasn't Pongsaklek Wonjongkam known as Pongsaklek Fried Chicken at one point or something? Borkorsor took the name from the bus company he worked for. I don't know where 'Venice' came from.
Yeah...forgot about this, generally the last names are names of gyms....Probably it is in this case as well.......
Bloody hell.... miss the thread for a few days and it explodes with greatness!!! :-D Well done fellas some great stuff images, vids, and great knowledge, brilliant. Too much to absorb. I thought my genreal Muay Thai knowledge up to 2001 was pretty indepth, but I keep learning with every post. I've been out of touch really post 2001 develpments particularly outside Thailand but this thead is helping, so thanks and I love the way it's centered on Thais and not too many "international" fighters unless they really are standouts. Anyway, I loooooove this Dieselnoi clip. It's a classic example of the archetypal knee specialist. A tall lanky rangy fighter, great video for any young aspiring Muay Thai fighters with a similar build. Most foriegn new comers tend to push clinching and knee techinques aside and focus more on the glamour kicks and punches, a mistake for a guy with a build like this. Great tech displayed, yet so fluid, subtle and relentless! Love it, thanks.
He really was great with the knees though :yep All reports are of him dominating with them. Reminds me of a Muay Thai Monzon. Once Dieselnoi found his range there was no getting away from his artillery. And he was massive for the weight, I shudder to think how much weight he was cutting. You ever heard of any footage knocking about from Samart and Dieselnoi's genuine contest boran?
Muang in Thai means city and Surin is a town in Issan or the North East of Thailand. Issan is the rice producing part of the country and the least well off part of the country. The people there are Thai but really ethnic Laotians and some ethnic Khmers. You do get boxers from the North, central and southern part of Thailand but less of them. Muangsurin was a famous gym and many fighters out of that gym used to have an M on their shorts and as I'm sure you know most fighters take the surname of the gym they train at and western boxers or Muay Sakon fighters also sometimes take the name of their sponsors. My friend Saohin took N'Yoko after a well-known soap company that sponserd him. My name was after the gym I trained in. This leads on the Pong “fried Chicken” name. Well actually it is Gai Ha Dow which translates as 5 star chicken which is a very popular street side roast chicken franchise. If you look at Pong’s last fight you’ll see on his shorts in the middle at the front the logo of a cartoon chicken. Sounds funny, but in Thailand Som Tam(Papaya Salad) and Gai Yang (BBQ Chicken)is a famous traditional dish from Issan where Pong is from and most of the Boxing following public are from Issan and is a staple of their diet. Although I still think KratingDaeng Gym is a great gym name for a boxer (RedBull gym, most people don’t know but Redbull is or was a Thai company). Hope that helps a bit….. and Flea like the new avatar suits you well!:good
Thais seem to be able to cut absolutely ridiculous amounts of weight and they can also recover form punishing fights quicker than westerners. I had major issues in Thailand because I'm a small farang, the average height and size of a Thai 5ft 7, fought at around 60 kilos, hence no shortage of Thais to bash me up. To me thay all seemed huge at the weight. Alot of weterners (big welters up to heavies) that were fighting at that time were bigger than thier Thai opposition, remember when Seangtengnoi was put in hospital againat a farang (I can't remember who) he was giving about 3 weight divisions. That wasn't always the case but pretty much the norm back then, as most forigners are naturally bigger than Thais it was hard for alot of farang to find enough competative Thai fighters above super welter, but I imagine things have changed over the last decade or so as there are alot more Muay Thai fighters form the west now and the sport seems to have exploded with the help of MMA. Interms of the Deiselnoi Samat video. I'm not sure. I do have a huge collection of old tapes, VCD and DVDs from Thailand showing fights all the way back to the 70s, so I'm may have something. Haven't watched many for a long long time. If it exsits it'd be available in BKK for sure.
I really enjoyed that. Loved the bit where he kicks out of the ropes, classic. The energy of Muay Thai in Thailand so hard to replicate anywhere else.:happy
The thread is about ATGs, and it´s too soon to call this kid below an one....but he is one of my favorites out there in the current game, will fight tomorrow at Lumpinee: Penaik (or Pen-Ake) Sitnoomnoi Featherweight champion (126lb ?) since September 2011....check it out.....it´s a very interesting fighter.....I hope we can call him a Great in the future... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSLeY68Aa8M[/ame] (he´s in blue) [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3ycP-0gbLA[/ame] (he is in red) Quick fighter, has a very good jab, one of the best jabs of today.....
Awesome stuff boranbkk :good Knew it was Gai something! Tried learning some Isaan dialect last time out there...I ended up getting confused And the avatar is a picture that seems recently discovered, of the aforementioned Borkorsor.
Poor translation I know but does this mean anything to you boran? 'Venice held several jobs, but without success. The year 2544 was ordained a priest decided that the abbot at Wat Bang Pla Thai beauty Tabetea home province of Nakhon Phanom.' I want to seek out Borkorsor! Maybe Wat Bang Pla is the temple he was ordained at?
