Do you think Akinwande knocked down Lennox Lewis?

Definitely IMO. Obviously didn't hurt Lewis and it was own bad positioning and balance that caused him to touch down but you would have the rule a KD as it was a result of the punch.

Akinwande had a decent punch on him, would have been nice to see what he could do with a bit more of a fighters mentality. All he's remembered for now is his performance in this fight

 

Well maybe, depends if you see it as the punch or push that put him down, as Henry's forearm went on the back of Lennox's neck and looked like it may have pushed him down.

Akinwande is an underrated HW though, great speed and technique for such a huge HW. If he faced Holyfield instead he might have given him all kinds of trouble (wasn't that scheduled and Akinwande got sick?)

It's difficult for me to tell and it's one of those speculation KD's where the ref can't make a definitive right call/mistake because only the fighters know, in my opinion. :conf I lean toward Akinwande's push/pulling and leaning as being more the result, if forced to pick which I thought it was. I really doubt he hurt Lewis even if he got him off balance from the actual punch.

 

I dont think the punch touched him, could have been scored as a KD though.

 

The left hand definitely landed, the right looked like a push.

I don't really know what happened, but Lewis gave a bit of a grin a few moments later, which is usually an indication that the opponent did something of value.

 

He dosent land clean on Lewis, then pushes him. Thats how i see it.

 

Didn't Mills Lane acknowledge after the fight that he made a mistake in not calling it a knockdown?

It was a knockdown. How many times did Lewis do the very same thing to his opponents and knock them down? Land a big right and follow up by pushing them down or leaning on top of them. I always hated that tactic he used and its the same thing Wlad does now against his opponents.

 

I'd have no probs with it being called a knockdown. He touched down so it is in the rules. Plus it would have had absolutely no bearing on the fight.

It was more to do with balance and Akinwande leaning on him than the punch actually putting him down, if infact it even landed.

I think Akinwande had the tools to give Lewis a tough night, shame Henry didn't think the same.

 

I think it's easy to over analyse these things. Akinwande landed a punch, and Lewis' glove touched the canvas directly afterwards, which should be scored a knockdown.

Not a "hard" or "clean" knockdown, and utterly irrelevant in the overall scheme of things, but a knockdown nonetheless.

 

I think he had the style to give Holyfield problems, especially if Evander had one of his off nights. It would probably have been a better route for Akinwande to take, as he wouldn't have been as intimidated against the smaller Holyfield as he would have been against Lewis.

Mentally he seemed beaten before the fight started.

Akinwande's major flaw was his lack of self belief. Something Evander had in spades. But yeah stylistically i'd agree with you he could of coursed him problems.

Incidentally for similar reasons i wanted to see Bruno fight Holy, it would of been interesting to me.
