Power Puncher brings up a good point regarding the pace that Baer fought and Norton fought. While both certainly weren't speed demons I think it's fair to say that Kenny fought his best fights at a faster, more intense pace than Baer did. Max seemed to enjoy taking his time, preening for the audience and mostly throwing one shot at a time while Norton tended to business. A 10 or 12 round fight fought at a fast pace uses up as much energy as a 20 round fight fought at a slow pace. Compare for example Baer/Braddock with Norton/Ali I,II or III for that matter and it might shed some light on the matter(Hell how did i forget Norton/Holmes?). If Max beats a prime Norton then he has to KO him whereas Ken can win by KO or decision. Baer against any latter time good quality HW means that Max is going to have to be ready to fight with more intensity and with BOTH hands...not just his booming right.

Poor Norton..this board keeps throwing him to animals in the hopes he'll morph into a back foot boxer and outpoint them with his impressive physique, acting chops, and paper credentials.

Lets discuss some heavy hitting contenders Norton has a chance of beating like that Tommy Morrison cat or Shannon the Cannon? How about Vitali Klitschko? Some rank him as a hitter yet Norton might be able to take his shot and do a number on him.

:D...basically true..Norton was only successful against light hitters like Ali and Young...more so against Ali than Young...and please don't anybody bring up that dreadful bout vs a pudgy, past it Jerry Quarry.

Can we just accept Ken Norton for what he was?

I just can't comprehend this desire to twist him into a dynamic all time great who only lost to the GREATEZ PUNCHERZ of all time while well past his prime.

Max takes Kenny out, no way Norton withstands the kind of power Max wields.

What if it is the Max who showed up against Braddock? Was Braddock better than Norton?

Jimmy was tougher, much tougher, didn't freeze up like a deer in the headlights when he got nailed with a tremendous shot, and was at his best in his career biggest five final bouts, against JH Lewis, Lasky, Maxie himself, Louis (where he competed on more than even terms over the opening four rounds until arthritis began taking it's toll), and Farr.

Norton absolutely did not display himself to best advantage in his biggest fights. Aside from the stoppage defeats, he blew the second bout against Ali by doing no punching in the first several rounds before dropping the concluding 12th, induced Jerry Quarry to comment "He's gonna have ta fight a heckuva lot better than this if he's going to beat Ali!" late in his hypercritical audition for Ali III against Middleton, and Ali-Norton III is a match which most comments on youtube by current viewers seem to agree was correctly decided in Muhammad's favor.

His opening against cutie Zanon was not that impressive, and he needed it to be after seemingly setting a new standard against Duane Bobick. Was Norton the rightful winner over Young? He dropped eight of the first ten rounds against Holmes, then started out slowly again against CW Randy Stephens.

Yeah, I do think Norton gets stunned, freezes and gets taken out by the Max Baer of the Braddock loss. Jimmy said Maxie hit him harder than anybody else on a punch for punch basis, including Louis.

Prime vs Prime Max wins, what if it is Norton that was koed by Cooney vs Max who lost to braddock, I always assume prime vs prime.
