Bones isn't a heavyweight? Wow. Thanks for that. And here I was thinking he already was because of all those fights he hasn't had at heavyweight yet. :dead Bones dominated the **** out of Rampage. I'm not big on K1 at all, horrendously overrated and substandard competition. Jones's striking is excellent, and his all-round game is vastly superior to Overeem's. You'll see.
And yet you keep bringing up he would beat a heavyweight...atsch Bader dominated the **** out of Rampage... K1 striking is substandard...then you say Jones striking is excellent...:rofl Keep making a fool of yourself Popkins
Er, do you follow MMA media at all? Everyone and his uncle has known for some time that Jones plans to fight at heavyweight. And when he does, he'll beat Alistair Overeem. Bones also brutally finished Machida - could Ryan Bader do that? Don't be ridiculous. And obviously Bader didn't achieve the same emphatic superiority over Rampage that Jones, don't be ridiculous again. K1 striking is substandard, but that's another argument. In MMA terms, Jones's striking is most definitely excellent. He may not be at the level of Anderson Silva, but in the Rua fight and in round 2 of the Machida fight, he showed a high level of skill vs top class opponents. Again and again and again Stoo, your sandy-vagina'd lust for vendettas leads you to say stupid and unjustifiable things just for the sake of having potshots at people you dislike. Smarten up.
I've always respected your opinions, but I doubt Jones will avoid getting clocked and I'm not sold on his durability. I rate Jones' striking, he mixes it well, has some outlandish moves that he makes work and his left hook to the body against Shogun showed his intelligence, but The Reem has a monster plum.
Yes I do, and Im also smart enough to know he wont be half as dominant as he is at LHW due to most of the physical advantages he currently hold over all at that weight being similarly reduce. Depending on how he fills out at the weight he'd hold a decent advantage due to his main strength which are throws from the clinch and top game, as Alistair isnt the best on his back. But, judging by how difficult he found it to implement this gameplan against the strongest and in terms of mass the biggest LHW he faced in Jackson, I'll reserved judgement on him breezing through the better HW's until he actually performs at that level. And he wont be able to keep Alistair at bay in the striking in a similar fashion either, he isnt a concussive puncher and the reach advantage isnt there meaning he will have to step in closer and use more combo's to back up a World Class HW striker reach than leap in with flying knees as he'd have less room to gain the leverage required to pull them off He could, but we will have to weight and see... Yes, I know, but you were attempting to avoid my points about takedowns, I never said he didnt dominated Rampage. But also, so did Bader, who had much more success in taking down Quinton, even though he hasnt got the skill to finish it. My original point was, as you were either side stepping or missed it, would he be able to takedown a guy like Alistair, who's bigger, stronger, and has a dangerous clinch game, than Page, who, over the years, has been routinely dominated in that area. Jones hasnt faced a monster in the clinch that Reem at heavyweight has become, so again I'll reserve my judgement it is very good, quick, dynamic and unpredictable. But that's partly due to the reach advantage he holds imo. I dont think you can completely dismiss Overeems power and technique in this one. Shogun is, of course, a very good MMA Muay Thai fighter, but he is not 265lbs with an 82 inch reach. Most of the damage Jones did was on the ground aswell. If he got Reem in such a position Jones would be very close to stopping it. But he'd have to completely out muscle Alistair in the clinch, and survive some of the hardest knees in MMA to do so. Well I just justified them, and I dont dislike you, just disagree it's a fore gone conclusion that Jones beats Reem. And Im one of the biggest Reem detractors on this forum.
My biggest issue with Jones movig up is size. He'd still be bigger than most but the advantages stop being so extreme. I still think he'd be a big guy, his wingspan is tremendous, but he'll also be in more danger from bigger, stronger and harder hitting men then he'll face in his, IMO surefire GREAT, 205 tenure. I think Jones is incredible, and looks to have far less fallibility when it comes to his allround game, but I'm not sure he'll be as confident applying it against a striker of the calibre of Dos Santos or Overeem. Would he be able to implement his long-armed GnP against a lanky freak like Struve, who has been seasoned against much larger men and shown resilience. And would Jones be able to blast him on the feet? Whatever happens, with as freakish a division Heavyweight is (for occurrences in-fight as well as dimensions) I don't envision Jones having as dominant a run I see him having at Light Heavyweight. Intriguing future for MMA fans for sure.
Couldnt agree more Flea Man, but Jones is always improving and I have no doubts he'll make a mark at HW. But will he be as dominant, not so sure
My sentiments exactly. Possible champ? I can see it. Just can't see him dominating people as he is now on a consistent basis.
:happy Well, you've just embarrassed yourself again, you ****ing tit. My statement that Jones would be 240lbs as a heavyweight was based on an interview with the man himself. http://www.espn.co.uk/ufc/sport/story/136348.html This content is protected Man enough to apologize? Didn't think so. :smoke
:huh Can anyone show me where I said Jones would be as dominant at hw as he is at lhw? Because I'm pretty sure I haven't said anything even resembling that. All I said was he'll beat Overeem if they fight once Jones moves up to hw. And he will. A 240lbs Jon Jones is a nightmare for Overeem.
The Reem also has the gas tank of an obese 85 year old in a wheelchair, a weak chin, and I think his boxing is pretty crap (for someone who is a renowned striker), he seems to base his whole game around kicks, knees, and a guillotine. I believe Jones has the brain to fight the right fight vs Reem, and in a 5-round fight I think it's an absolute banker that Jones ****s him up.
OK, got one sentence into this and already you're trying to "win an argument" by completely changing what I'm saying and what you're arguing against. Utterly pointless, General Forum troll style debate, not interested. :-(
I think Dos Santos beats Jones, for what it's worth. JDS's takedown defence is excellent, and on the feet his boxing and his power will be too much for Bones.
hmm on the subject of jones moving up to lhw i think overeem would beat jones based on his incredible size and 1 hit k.o. power that jones does not possess however that being said i think the only way jones will beat overeem is by lay and pray or submission but less likely in terms of submission as overeem has rolled with some of the best in the world. In terms of weight difference there is no question to a rational minded person that jones at 205 is very fast and explosive however is he able to keep his explosiveness and quickness when he moves up in weight?? I highly doubt it physics would tell you that, that is simply no possibly unless you are taking PEDS' so il put my money on the safe bet which is overeem throwing uberknees at jon jones face all night long. But in retrospect Junior Dos Santos would knock both of them out.
