Both men were talented fighters, both achieved lots in the lower weights and both had quite sporadic heavyweights careers in terms of opponents, very similar in size- For my lovers/ fanboys M. seriously man, no nostalgia or any **** like that, Haye is not going to beat Mike Spinks, Haye is going to be so outboxed it would be a joke. Spinks was a master of turning back foot to front foot in an instance, he puts punches in bunches together in a way that makes Haye red with envy. What does Haye have here? A hard right hand? What's he going to do, run across the ring and swing a full blooded right hand at Spinks and ko him? Without any educated pressure or good combination punching that is not going to happen without him paying for it badly. What's his other option? To outbox Spinks with a display of snappy jabbing etc? That actually makes me laugh. Haye is totally outclassed. It doesn't matter that Spinks was greater at 175, he moved up and battered Cooney who was so much bigger than him, and he beat a past prime Larry Holmes who was still infinitely better than a prime David Haye, and he came through so much hell in the first fight, which he deserved to win. Haye isn't going to torment Spinks' torso the way Larry did. No win for Haye in a million years.
Spinks was a very awkward proposition. Haye will be too cautious to let go, and I think it's Spinks that dictates the pace and lands an accurate Jinx at some point to take Haye out.
Easy nights work for Mike. Just different levels and there are fighters one or two levels below Mike Spinks that would beat Haye.
Spinks was unlucky really I mean he had to fight two top 10 all times just to be a champion and and a top level contender in Cooney. I use to hate when people said Spinks was nothing when Tyson did away with him, Spinks was a good heavyweight and a great Light-Heavy. Tyson at his best was a monster heavyweight.
Spinks all day against Haye. Everytime i think of Michael Spinks i think back to the Tyson fight and his "rabbit in the headlights" face. He was genuinely terrified.
Yes and Spinks was already pretty much retired at that point, although I maintain that the best Tyson always would've walked through Mike. One of the greatest 175lbers of all time and arguably the best H2H force at the weight. Spinks is one of the ATGs, I have him anywhere between 31-40.
Anyone fancy doing a detailed breakdown. Haye would throw more without a doubt, as he would fancy it with Spinks being his size...but then Spinks style was different to Ruiz and he was far better than Bonin and Barett. Haye lack of a jab could be his downfall, I reckon Spinks is hurt on a few occasions, but the latter part of the fight he works Haye out and installs a shut out- Cooney, hits just as hard as Haye so anyone doubting punch resistant should think again. 1- 10-9 Spinks 2- 10-9 Haye 3- 10-10 4- 10-9 Haye 5- 10-9 Spinks 6- 10-9 Spinks 7- 10-9 Spinks 8- 10-9 Haye 9- 10-9 Spinks 10- 10-9 Spinks 11- 10-10 12- 10-9 Spinkls Spinks wins a 117-113/ 116-112/ 117-114 type UD Or Spinks 7 rounds Haye 3 rounds Even 2 rounds Of course im just speculating but I think Spinks wins by 4 rounds or so.
It would be interesting for an impartial observer to list HW champions (real ones or otherwise) that Haye would be favoured to beat. Even though I hate the ******* I'd imagine the number might be higher than I'd initially suspect.
