    Good links about Apidej :

    http://www.mymuaythai.com/archives/apidej-sit-hirun/

Apidej Sit Hrun (born Narong Yaenprateep: September 1941, in Samut Songkhram, Thailand) is a famous Muay Thai fighter. He is best known for his powerful kicks. In 1 fight against Sompong Charoenmuang he broke both of his arms, and forced the fighter to retire. He is considered the hardest kicker in muay thai history. Apidej simultaneously held no less than seven Muay Thai and boxing titles for a period during the 1960s.1 Thereafter, he was acclaimed as a national hero and Muay Thai Fighter of the Century by HRH King Bhumibol Adulyadej2 . After his retirement, Apidej has taught as an instructor at the Fairtex school outside Bangkok, Thailand alongside modern champions such as Yodsaenklai Fairtex and Kaew Fairtex.

As he's not a mate of yours I can be a bit cruel and honest considering he's on an ATG thread. :yep

Good experience for the Brazilian lad and to be fair you can only beat what's in front of you, but I didn't rate his opponents, they weren't proper fighters in training, probably low level ex fighters out for a small payday. He should have got them out of there way earlier considering he's the fit trained fighter, but he looked one dimensional just kicking each time to the mid section and then going heavy with the hands. His kicks were slow and his punches lacked power cos he was fighting in a panic, he should have slowed down and realxed into the fight, picked his shots like a Thai, he would have learnt more. I was impressed he did the Wai Kru though!!!

Maybe I'm being a bit harsh, maybe he's a novice fighter, but this thread has some legendary names in it. (I feel bad now)

He proabaly wasn't in Thailand for long, but a good experience for his future soaking up a Thai camp and observing techniques and particulalrly the tempo of a Thai gym, which will help the rythem and pace of his fighting in the future. Good luck to him, he's out there giving it a go.:good

Did you watch the fights with Apidej ?..he was a monster with those kicks :yep: damn !!

Sorry about the slow reply on Apidet (which I think is the best Romanisation), need to grab half an hour to sit and enjoy them. I'm pretty familar with Apidet, now I see him fight, I can't always remember the names of the golden oldies, I'm 37 so gettin on a bit.

The first clip is a thing of beauty, thanks for posting it. :good The sequence form 3.50.....spinning elbow to monster left hook to lead left leg to solar......****in hell. :happy:happy:happy Nice sequance at the end of him passing the wisdom on.

The second clip shows just how heavy he hit with both his feet and hands. Every shot seemed to be loaded with thunderbolts of pain. He always looks a weight class above who he's fighting so he must have been a master at cutting weight. The one thing I would say though is he really seems to over commit sometimes and be open for nasty counters, but I guess cos of his natural strength and size he could get away with it.

The third clip is intersting cos if you listen to the commentary it's basically saying how slow he looks because...........:yikes HE'S 34 :yikes ........fighting an 18 year old. 34 in Thai Muay Thai is pensioner status. The commentator is saying that if Apidet was 10 years younger there is no way Poodparnoi could handle him, no doubt looking at the first clip.

A true ATG, nice one Vic.:thumbsup

Apidej proves your theories on Muay Thai training boran, the one technique at a time thing. Then, you're prepared to throw any shot at any time. (I think it was you who said that)

You can tell me must've been a pad/bag master. He smashes those shots in, especially in the sequence you earmarked as impressive, the elbow, left hook then the kick. Didn't throw it all in succession, he blasted, stepped out of range, blasted, waited, then blasted.

Most Thai's keep that patience and ability to spot a shot when they move into international boxing. Borkorsor, against Herrera, demonstrated this to it's pinnacle IMO.
