but banned indefinately? ban him forever or ban him for a specific length of time. its quite amateurish i think, they didnt have the balls to ban him for life and didnt want a specific time that could be attacked for its shortness or its length
Not purely because of this but I'm just losing interest in boxing completely. I'm tired of all the bull**** and the power grip of the old ****s on the sport. It's ruined. Was Barrera banned and slated for throwing a punch at Morales? Was Larry Holmes banned and slated for diving off a car? Was Tyson EVER banned for the **** he did and said (minus the ear bite)? It's just ridiculous shite.
Banning for life opens you up to lawsuits and could lead to his licence being reinstated and the ban overturned. Regardless of the method by which the ban was applied, it was the right response to his thuggish behaviour. I suspect the indefinite ban means they look tough for the UK media, he gets a suitably long punishment but can reapply later on and all will be forgotten. This isn't his first offence: biting, kissing, saying he'll **** other boxers, slapping, spitting, provoking a brawl... he's not exactly a good role model or a good poster-child for a sport already living on wires every time something like this happens.
Weren't the bookies taking bets on how long he'd be banned for? What happens with those bets? Does everyone lose their money?
Again, I have to disagree mate. The board had a number of options, including a fine or a year ban. Taking away a mans livelihood for something like this is absurd. The spit was disgusting, but fair worse has happened at weigh ins and press conferences in the past without this much backlash.
Other than Tyson, they weren't making such a ****ing habit of it. The slap was somewhat forgiveable, but the spitting? The biting? The kissing? Come on, he got what he deserved.
brilliant the only heavyweight with some personality, charisma and an exciting style banned just great.
Really? Come on. It's not one thing, it's the fact he can't seem to stop himself from doing this sort of ****. He got exactly what he deserved. He made a choice to behave that way, he wasn't forced to, he needs to live with the consequences. If he'd not gotten into it with Haye, it would have likely been a fine.
That's exactly my problem tho. If he doesn't walk over to Haye with a mic, he would have been fined and that's it. It's ridiculous. I agree he has to live with his actions, but the punishment is grotesquely extreme IMO. Sure he has a 'history', but the kiss was funny, the slap hyped the fight (something boxers have long done by using violence at the presser). The spit was horrible. That's what he should be punished for.
The kiss was creepy. How would you feel about a big ugly black dude kissing you on the mouth? I'd ****ing have him done for sexual assault! What about the bite?
