Yes but Mayweather had left the 130/135 and 140 weight classes behind long ago whilst Marquez was still fairly new to the LW division.

He actually began his career at LHW

The argument you're trying to make is the equivalent of someone trying to say that Ken Norton was a better fighter then Evander Holyfield.

You laugh but this is boxing, contracted weights are there for a reason. When Mayweather comes in 2lb over it's all shits and giggles but when Pacquiao get's someone to come in 2lb lighter then it's all serious and allegations of weight drain get thrown about.

Yeah but you mentioned guys like Mercado and Ornelas as proof of the depth of Hopkins' resume. However, Ornelas is not even as good as the version of Sharmba Mitchell that Floyd fought. Ornelas is on the level of a Henry Bruseles. Guys like N'Dou, Sosa, and Gerena were better than Ornelas. Mercado was a nice fighter. But does he rank above the likes of Jesus Chavez, Carlos Hernandez, Angel Manfredy and DeMarcus Corley? I don't think he does. I've seen polls on this site where Calzaghe's resume gets ranked ahead of Hopkins. The only time Hopkins gets any real credit on here is when he's being compared to Mayweather.

    top 10? 20? 30? For real?

Neither are that high but you have to have Hopkins ahead.

    Let's select how his best five wins actually look;

    1. Johnson (undefeated at the time he was beaten, future 2 weight world champion. Loses to Hopkins and is stopped for the first and possibly only time in the process)
    2. Trinidad (ATG - 3 weight world champion, undefeated and was a heavy favourite coming into the fight but lost and was stopped for the only time in his career)
    3.
    Joppy(3 time world champion)
    4. Holmes (WBC champion)
    5. Oscar DLH ( ATG 6 weight world champion fighting past his best weight but still in his prime, is stopped via a bodyshot)

    ATG's defeated 2
Champions defeated 5 (3 multi weight Champions)
    KO's 3

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Now let's look at the Floyd victories as you've selected them;

    1. Diego Corrales ( Future two weight world champion, undefeated when he fought and was stopped by Mayweather)
    2. Genaro Hernandez (WBC champion, fighting for the last time in his career TKO'd by Floyd
    3. Jesus Chavez (Future two weight world champion is stopped by Mayweather)
    4. Angel Manfredy (decent win similar to the Echols win for Hopkins)
    5. Famoso Hernandez (I assume you mean Carlos Hernandez? World champion Mayweather UD's him)

    ATG's defeated 0
Champions defeated 4 (2 multi weight champions)
    KO's 4

We'll let the obervers judge who's got the better resume at their respective weight.

Now wipe that sperm dripping down from your eyes and admit you've been both refuted and educated all in one post you no-original idea having ***git :smooch

    Silvio Branco - L
    Omar Sheika - L
    Derrick Harmon - L
    Julio Cesar Gonzalez - L

He isn't a better counter puncher than Floyd IMO. Hopkins does NOT I repeat NOT have better footwork than Floyd.
Show me fights where Hopkins has better footwork than these.

Where do you get that Hopkins is a smarter fighter when Hopkins said their IQ is equal? Floyd beats Calzaghe because of his timing. He would be able to counter Calzaghe whenever he comes in. Also Floyd wouldn't get hit as much as Hopkins did in that fight because Calzaghe's output will drop. Also Floyd has better defense.

this, but then again, had he been given the wins he felt he deserved, he would've retired happily with a great resume. knowing that he got screwed gives him the resentment and motivation to keep going.

your argument is weak. you must have started watching hopkins in 2005 or something. you're comparing a 40+ year old hopkins to a prime mayweather. notice in each of the fights you posted mayweather's speed was vastly superior to his opponent. hopkins didn't have that luxury. Taylor was stronger and faster, still barely landed anything. calzaghe couldn't land ****. slaps on the arm never counted for another fighter ever. Hopkins vs. Taylor I was master footwork. consider all the variables before making claims.

What does he have to do to rank ahead though? for many years I have read people saying first let him to this or that, and then when he does it its like naw still not enough, it seems like it will never be enough just because jones>bhop prime for prime.

I didn't compare a 40 year old Hopkins to a prime Floyd. Know what your talking about before responding. I clearly posted, "Show me fights where Hopkins has better footwork than these". I didn't say, "Show me recent Hopkins fights where he has better footwork than these".

    Better athlete: Mayweather
    Ring IQ: Maybe even
Better opponents defeated, at the time and weight they were defeated: Mayweather
    H2H at their best: Mayweather
Accomplishments, in total, at this point: Mayweather, slightly, only because of Hop's cleaning out a division, full unification, defense record and longevity. His accomplishments leading into his late forties are on paper in the same league as Mayweather's up to this point, but Mayweather is better, has beaten better and has done a little more, despite being cast in the role of an underachiever.

I don't like the phrasing of the options, though.
