Nobody's ever considered Maskaev or Liakhovich to be American, do I don't see why that would be the case.
Those guys are different though I think. Their names are very Russian or Eastern European, they look the part too. Chisora looks like a lot of Americans. Not sure how to verbalize it, but I just think it would be different. Being Canadian, we have a few examples, especially with Jamaicans. Ben Johnson, Ruddock, Donovan Bailey...all considered to be Canadian but born in Jamaica. Even Lennox Lewis was Canadian at one point, without the accent. I always found it funny that him turning pro and spontaneously developing a British accent to be kinda funny. But even he was born in Jamaica I believe. And Chisora was born in Africa, wasn't he? I'm just wondering if he decided to try and get an American Citizenship so he could continue to fight, and succeeded, could he be thought of as an American Heavyweight, the man all the American fans are looking for.
Lewis was born in East London and spent the first 12 years of his life in England. He has more of a shout at being 'English' than any of the other guys mentioned in this thread have to their adopted nations, although he probably considers himself Jamaican now I reckon and trips to the UK and Canada are few and far between.
