For the same reason Wlad didnt rematch Sanders, horses for courses. Tag-team boxing at its finest :-(
Lol at tags Not sure, perhaps he thought that because his brother defeated him he didn't need to anymore.
But in reality he should have rematched Byrd right away, he just took Vitali's title right in front of his nose.. I think all Klitschko fans on this site will tell us that he would easily have beaten Byrd in the rematch.. But maybe Vitali was afraid of getting walked down again? :think
We saw Holyfield suffer the same kind of injury as Vitali against Byrd, so he probably didn't want to do any more damage to his shoulder. The opposite happened with Sanders, but I think that was mainly to do with his style and would probably smoke Wlad again, whereas Vitali was much better fitted to take on Sanders
And for those suggesting Vitali wouldn't have beat Byrd in the rematch then your just a blind hater. And I can't ****ing stand the Klitchkos
I also think that Vitali didn't like the way Byrd was pushing him towards the end, Byrd was making Vitali miss and landed solid punches, keep in mind that Vitali had never faced anyone who fought back the way Byrd did.. I honestly believe that Vitali didn't want Byrd because it would be a very tough fight for him, that he maybe could have lost.
First because he was injured - Wladimir wasn't and took the belt from Byrd. Then later he probably wanted to target another belt - and Byrd had just lost his. Funny how people keep bringing up this stuff that happened a decade ago. Vitali was winning that fight quite clearly and was unfortunate to get injured along the way.
Vitali didn't rematch him because he had a serious shoulder injury that required surgery and he was going to be out 6 months, then he was going to need a tune up. Byrd didn't want to wait for him and Universum had the option, so Wlad took the fight. Vitali was soundly beating him anyway. Byrd had no shot at winning the fight if not for the injury, he was jumping around like he won the lottery when Vitali retired on the stool.....the WBO belt was his jackpot.
Because Universum had rematch option on Byrd which was going to expire and Vitali was injured so they made Wlad-Byrd. After that Byrd was free agent and he signed with Don King. That pretty much ruled out any possibility of Vitali-Byrd.
Vitali wanted no more of Byrd thats why he said no mas and quit on his stool when they actually fought. Byrd>Vitali
