These two fought a ten rounder before either man won a version of the light heavy title. Eddie won a decision. Now,as most of us will recall,a rematch for the undisputed title was on the cards for 1981,but the Howard Smith debacle caused cancellation. Who would have taken it ? I say Saad, but only after a battle royal. ?

Mustafa W 15 Saad. Saad would get hit too much. I don't see either fighting getting knocked out.

Eddie most likely would have won again. Saad started to decline '81 and after because of all the ring wars he had. I would get Saad's career set as I'm a fan of his but I can't find one with his fight with Eddie *sigh*.

I loved Saad, but I think you're right. He was starting to slide a bit by '81. I think before the second Yaqui Lopez fight, he may have had enough to beat Mustafa, and a fight with the still slightly green Michael Spinks would have been terrific, but by '81 both Spinks and Mustafa could have beaten him. The fight with Eddie Gregory (Mustafa) is on you tube. Saad actually boxes and Eddie is the aggressor, if you can believe that.

Franklin was one tough dude but Eddie edges him in 81.

Agreed. By the Qawi rematch Saad wasn't the same guy he was during his short reign. I thought that fight should've been stopped sooner though I'm a Qawi fan too. I saw a bit of the Gregory/Saad fight on yt but it was in bad quality and I don't think the whole thing is posted. Saad knew how to jab and move his head but as his career progressed he became more accustomed to trading punches especially with his power. Even Vonzell boxed well against Saad but eventually he couldn't keep it up and Saad stopped him. Saad is on of my fav lt hvy's along with Moore, RJJ, and Ezzard Charles.

I think think Saad takes a hard-fought decision over a game Eddie who's lackadasical nature would probably prevail at some point.

I believe KO mag rated E.M. Muhammad ahead of Saad M. at the beginning of 1981... Eddie was # 1 and Saad was # 2 with Spinks as the top rated contender in at # 3...

My gut says a well tuned E.M. Muhammad W15 Saad M.

Saad Muhammad seemingly went to hell over night in late 1981 against Braxton / Qawi, but the trend was there to see if you looked closley stemming from 1979...

Eddie M. Muhammad really screwed up with his ego and desire to fight Renaldo Snipes in 1981 and, Eddie paid the piper for his venture into heavyweight by being a slobbish 201 pounds in losing the fight... Then he drops weight quickly and gets beat and loses his crown at 175 pounds to Michael Spinks... Eddie was never the same after losing his title...

Matthew would make Eddie do things Eddie wouldn't want to do, which is exert himself.I think Matthew takes Mustafa to about 12 or 13 rounds, then lays the strong whammy on him for a 14th round TKO.

    :lol:No.

I'm not saying Saad is incapable of winning the fight (although circa '81 I'd favour Mustafa pretty clearly), in fact from what I understand their first fight was pretty controversial, and it definitely looks very close from the footage available.

However, I can't think of any Lt. Heavy I'd favour to stop Mustafa Muhammad.

The Eddie Mustafa of '80-'81 was too much class for Saad.

I like Saad personally. It looks like I'm the only one.

I too like Saad Muhammad. This guy was an absolute beast. So damn tough, phenomenal conditioning, very very strong, excellent power, durable, and would keep coming round after round. I think he possibly gets outboxed early but the nonstop pressure of Saad I think causes EMM to become overly defensive. I can even see Saad hurting EMM somewhere in the fight. Saad was only 13-2-2 when they first fought, while EMM was 20-2-1, and EMM only won a split. After that, Saad did not lose a fight from April '77 to December 81, pretty damn good given all the crazy wars he was in.

Both peak Eddie would have too much power. Saad used to take inhuman punishment before coming back to KO tired opponents. Eddie simply would have hit too hard by the time they peaked. Saad was far too open to take that much power over 15. Rest assured Eddie is one of the greatest hitters at 175 to ever lace em up. If he had genuine killer instinct he could have been anything.
