Do you also feel that they were left off because they weren't American? I'm trying to get a consensus here:smoke
Both! :deal What's interesting is Harry believing he had Langford hurt and all done both times before getting stretched. That takes the level of threat Langford carried in his gloves to an uber-elite level. Then we consider the size difference between the two and that Langford was no longer even in his prime. Seems that no matter what type of list is formulated, Langford is always presenting a case for it. P4P on resume? Check. P4P in a literal sense? Check. ATG Puncher? Check. One Punch KO Power? Check. Carrying Power up in Weight? Uhh... :good
I'd have Jackson at number 1 and Ketchel off the list. Wilfredo Gomez replaces Saddler. Hamed was a brilliant one shot puncher and scored probably more single shot stoppages than Tyson (who scored a lot of stoppages with combinations more so than single shots) so he takes his place. Arguello scored some great one shot KO's against some bloody good opposition and I'd put him ahead of Shavers who people overrate as a single shot artist on the back of the Holmes KD (which as you know didn't knock Larry out) and the Ellis stoppage which was admittedly a brutal shot but probably his only single shot stoppage against a decent opponent (as the Norton and Tiger Williams stoppages both took more than one punch). So that's at least 4 I'd have replacing some of the Rings all-American top 10 and that's just off the top of my head, if I put some thought into it I might even have more (as I'm unsure of Dempsey's place but he did score a lot of single shot KO's pre-title and I'd need to look into it).
Some good picks, especially Hamed, regardless of what other flaws he had as a fighter. The guy could punch.Tua too. Gomez, Trinidad, Zarate and Olivares were more the top-end composite punching types rather than consistent one-shot and out fighters imo.Well Olivares is kind of in his own category actually, not really one of the absolute best clean one-shot punchers, nor an elite balanced puncher...he was just effortlessly heavy handed in a sort of blunt, grinding way.
"The Manassa Myth" Jack Dempsey And "Tinkerbell" Tyson - BUT no BIG George Foreman?? lol::rofl:huhatsch
I agree with Saddler being taken off the list (if only because of the film available, but really who knows how many one punch KO's he had?), but to replace him with Gomez doesn't make much sense, given that aside from Royal Kobayashi he doesn't really have many notable one-punch KO's. He was the exemplary accumulation puncher. Outside of the Kobayashi fight he stopped Jose Luis Soto with a brutal uppercut to the solar plexus (in the midst of a combination) and Nelson Cruz Tamariz with a big overhand right (again, in the midst of a combination). Outside of that nothing springs to mind, and it's not like either of those guys were out cold or anything like that.
Most professional fighters can cold-**** another if given the chance. Wilfred Benetiz sent Maurice Hope to dreamland with one punch.
The 1st 4 are easy picks because they did have some spectacular one punch KO's over quality opponents....as far as Shavers, we all know he can punch and he dropped many but who did he KO with one punch. It took quite a few shots and 2 KD's over Norton and I saw him KO a worn Jimmy Ellis in 1 in MSG but I would not put Shavers in the accomplishment collum nor anywhere near the top 5 based on one-punch KO's over qualilty, He caught a 7-3 Jimmy Young early on but who was Young who he drew with in a rematch. Saddler was a puncher but there were guys that went the distance with him that Willie Pep KO'd....still Saddler is a good pick. I am ok with the rest but where is Julian Jackson and without stretching my mind they are a few that are not that ovious but deserve to be listed
It's all part and parcel for magazines like Ring to come out with some new "cutting edge" opinion driven article about "who's the best 1 punch ko artist" and the like...i think they want to seem edgy by eliminating an obvious choice like Jackson...it's all bull****..they should be talking up a guy like Danny Lopez more..
