He beats most of the division IMO, Hendo didn't fancy risking fighting him before a title shot by some accounts.

No. He is the same excellent fighter he always was. He was very tentative against Rampage because the memory of the Shogun KO was still haunting him, but he still won the fight. He has only ever (legitimately) lost to two of the best and most violent fighters ever, Bones and Shogun. He'd still torch the vast majority of lhw's. If you stick him in with Bader next, he'll blow him away. Never forget, Machida ****ing annihilated Rashad in a way no-one else has come close to doing.

    Jones' best win.

Lol at all the **** talking in this thread. Yeah. Karate doesn't work, does it? Not like he beat Ortiz, Shogun and knocked out Silva, Couture and Evans with it.

He's only been dominated by two of the best LHW's of all time(Jones really in the 2nd rd not the whole fight and Rua in the rematch) so no. It's not his prime I question it's his mentality. I feel he cares more about not getting hit than anything else but his chin ain't that good so I don't blame him. He's still one of the best LHWs and I only see him getting destroyed by Rua, JBJ, and Hendo. Lets not forget how he took down Rampage, treated the known wrestler in Ortiz like a ragdoll, or ko'd and dominated Rashad. I also liked his performance against Sokoudjou.

The problem is that Lyoto actually has average stamina.

When he's controlling the distance and the rhytm of the fight, he goes steady and just wait for the opponent to make a mistake and counterfights his way to a decision. His gas tank well within the limit.

However, when he finds himself in a tough situation he suddenly fades. Any explanation why he's doing fine against Jones but suddenly slowed to a crawl and heaving after getting taken down before barely managing to stand-up. Then got caught in the stading choke.

That's how I see it though.

I think you nailed it. He has great tools, even though Jones tooled him early in the 2nd, he gave Jones his toughest round.

I saw Machida closing the distance, landing the punch and being out of the way several times in the first round against Jones.. He still has the quickness and speed to employ his style, he brings a totally unique look which is great for the sport. He just needs confidence and a win.

What the hell does his chin have to do with anything? I assume it makes you feel more like a man by trying to convince yourself that every fighter has a glass jaw.

Well Karate can only help you this much. He still hasn't improved his ground game or his muay thai and boxing. Karate is limited in a real fight. Kyokushin can help you becoming a good kicker but you still need muay thay and boxing when you can't KO the opponent with your first flurry. In the Jon Jones fight in the second round he completely abandoned the strategy which brought him success in the first. I don't know what happened: stamina problems or his concentration failed him?

Agree, but he didn't beat Shogun first time round IMO.
