that's true Ward has been on an impressive KO streak and people get battered and disfigured after his fights. Ward is great and will probably win but he is killing no one in the ring.

 Floyd can't even make 144 and came in at 146. Floyd can be 140 but is at 130 than .

Martinez is a small middleweight! He is a guy who can make 154 easy but 168 not so much. Martinez could challenge himself against a 168lber., but really puts himself at a size disadvantage. Martinez already puts himself at a disadvantage at middleweight.

Mayweather 5,8 72" reach sergio would make 10-20 million
Ward 6,0 71" reach sergio would make 1-2 million

martinez 5,10 75" reach, so against either fighter he has the reach advantage, so why not take the height advantage, go to a comfortable weight as well as make 10 times as much?

Didn't he just say, in an interview, that he's really ~ a natural 154? So why would he want to compete at SMW?

Nothing odd about it at all.

I dont understand the gripe so many people have with Martinez wanting to fight Mayweather....

There are two fighters that the boxing world has in front of Martinez, Pac... and Mayweather.

Martinez said on national tv that pac is too small, but that he wants to fight mayweather.

And instead of people saying hell ya, lets see the p4p number three and p4p number 1 (or 2) go at it, at a weight both have been champions at, no instead some people start getting defensive saying that oh, Martinez needs to move up and fight ward or hopkins instead

Mayweather is considered the best fighter in the world, Mayweather is going to be fighting at the weightclass (and has fought there before) that Martinez should be at and it would be the number 1 guy vs the number 3 guy at a weight both guys have fought at.

But no, people want Martinez, who is outsized at middleweight as it is (I think most people could tell how small martinez was in there against barker and pavlik), to move up to a weightclass hes never fought at, and has no reason to go to.

Its going to be funny to hear what people say should Martinez decide to go back to 154.... and yet still try to talk about how hes picking on his fellow p4p fighters (Mayweather) and fellow title holders (Cotto, Canelo) in his very weight class. lol... boxing fans are funny.

Never seen people get so defensive over a guy wanting to fight world class opposition and other champions.

Its not that hard to understand why Martinez would rather fight in blockbuster fights against the top fighters from the weightclass he was just at, then move to a whole new weight and fight.... ward.

of course he wants to fight pac and mayweather, they bring him the most money. but they're not even big welterweights, there is no way they should be criticised for not moving up and fighting sergio, especially when he doesn't bring in much money.

Mayweather might not be a 'big' welterweight like williams and margarito were, but hes sure as hell not a small one. He can fight at 154 comfortably, as can sergio.

The last fight floyd had at 154 he didn't look comfortable at all. Only time will tell if he looks better at that weight against cotto.

Fair enough, I think with the added age he will carry it well. The hoya fight was years ago. But time will tell like you say.....

Is it really the same though Floyd and Pacuaio have won titles at light middle weight and Martinez is willing to fight them at that weight where they won those titles.

if floyd beats cotto at 154, then there's no excuse for him to duck martinez at 154 if he still doesn't want to fight pac at 147.
