I am in Vilnius for work till tuesday morning and have not the time to follow anything let alone watch Not shocked by the result but shocked that Macklin was leding on the cards before the stoppage is Martinez a little bit past his prime or is he luring Chavez Jr into a fight cannot wait till wednesday to watch he fight greetings to all of you from the very cold Lithuania
Martinez was too passive. In the earlier rounds he barely did anything and when he did it was mostly single shots. When he connected he dropped his hands, stopped punching and Macklin landed his own shots. I dont think Macklin was ahead but it was close.
I went to my bookie site and they have yet to update the Martinez - Macklin fight. You could still bet so i put a little something on over 9.5
Very good victory by martinez. I think he should round his career off with fights against chavez, sturm and then a superfight (floyd or ward) Interesting that since beating kelly, he's knocked out every opponent (williams, dzindzuruk, lee, macklin) all of whom where ranked opponents at the time. 3 more defences should be enough to secure his legacy imo. I think it's honestly great how a fighter who didn't even throw a punch in anger till age 20, a fighter who, for love nor money, couldn't get any promotional interest during his 20's, a fighter who was robbed in his first two fights against top level opponents (at age 30+) and a fighter who was seen as a cherry pick for kelly's latest defence, a fighter who has been through all that can still manage to secure a great legacy. If he can get those 3 defences, I genuinely think I might struggle to think of more than 15 middleweights that would deserve to be ranked above him.
Greetings David!! :good As for the fight. Martinez was in control of the fight throughout imo, the rounds he lost was him just not doing enough. Granted, he got hit with some shots, but nothing serious or major. He was just too patient for awhile, while his opponent was fighting with fire, which leads to that guy winning some rounds. Another reason for the scores, besides stupidity, was that Martinez was ruled down but it was also clear that it was mainly from getting his leg/foot cought up with MM's. All in all, sergio maybe wasnt at his best best, maybe little slowing down (Hes def not the sergio that destroyed bunema) but I wouldnt be too concerned. He still has it for the most part, hes always been hittable in spots during fights, tonight he was just a little too patient early on and was in there with a really strong dude who was going to put in work.
I dont know enough about history to ever do divisional rankings, but I sure hope hes able to get good fights from here on out. And I really am not tryng to be a sergio fanatic, at all, but I think he isnt given all the credit he should get sometimes. Pavlik, Williams, and Dz were legit fighters. Barker and MM are solid. To go 5-0 against them, with 4 stoppages, is outstanding. (imo)
Yeah I'm well impressed with him. The guy's a great talent and I hope he can stick around for a couple more years making the money he deserves from the sport. Outstanding is exactly what I'd call him :good
Dumb people they are. 19.03.2012 03:00 Thats the payout date they have :rofl. I really hope i get the money.
I had Martinez-Macklin level going into the 11th, I just though he was too lazy in the early rounds and let Macklin pip then on workrate alone as I felt they were about equal with clean shots landing. 1-Even 2-Martinez 3-Martinez 4-Macklin 5-Macklin 6-Macklin 7-Even 9-9 8-Macklin 9-Martinez 10-Martinez 11-Martinez 10-7 A lot of the early rounds were close though so I can see why people picked Martinez, I guess its a style thing whereby from 3-7 you pretty much liked one guys work more and they won pretty much every round in that block.
I had a feeling that George will do an upset , i try this from time to time , didn't work this time I had Martinez UD or Macklin UD/KO over Goodbot who had Martinez by KO
