We all know Joe Gallagher would not have stopped the Macklin fight, but should Buddy?

To me Macklin was losing the 11th rd, but he was still extremly competitive all the way until the last 20 seconds. Why didnt Buddy give him the full minute to get his act together and let him start the 12th, if things werent going right he could have thrown the towel in.

To me it was a typical McGirt stoppage and Macklin was naive going for him as a trainer.

Martinez would have ruined Macklin's career in the twelfth. Macklin was done.

I agree, Macklin should've been given his minute to recover & if he was taking anymore punishment the referee would've stepped in,

Macklin had put up a brave performance for 10 rounds, but he was caught hard in the 11th and was all over the place at the end of the round, with blood dripping from his head. He was behind on the cards, and doesnt have the power to stop Martinez.

What would have been the point in Buddy sending him out for 3 minutes of hell after he had put up such a great showing? Good stoppage to protect a fighter.

It was a great stoppage imo

Nothing more dangerous than a brave corner, McGirt did the right thing.

Macklin said in the post fight that he wanted to go on, but he also said he knew that buddy knew what was best for him.

What is the point in sending your fighter out when there is absolutely no chance he can survive another round let alone have a chance of winning the fight

I agree, Macklin should have been allowed another 3 minutes of beatdown and heavy headshots for the slimmest chance of a win.

McGirt said something like "You're behind on the cards, the way he's fighting you aren't going to get a knock-out, so I'm pulling you out."

Macklin said he was ok and could continue, Buddy said he wasn't letting him back out. Macklin hadn't been competitive since the eighth. Sergio was beating the **** out of him.

If he had, Martinez would have done some serious damage. Matthew had been brave, put on a decent performance, showed he belonged at that level - why risk him getting hurt just for some idiot's sense of "honour"?

  13. Me too.

Brave as he is, he didn't want to go out for the last round. Can't really blame him.

Whenever someone makes a thread like this. I always think 'you must have lost a bet'. More often then not that thought is right.
