Dibella - if no Chavez Jr., it'll be Andy Lee or Daniel Geale

Barker impressed me more in the first half of the Spada fight than I ever was watching Jacobs, and I also think there's really no reason to believe he could he could put on the kind of performance that Macklin had against even a slowing down Sturm.

So you have to qualify his effort (for the first 6 rounds) to get something impressive out of his win with Spada, a Euro level guy. Even if Jacobs was overhyped, the boxing establishment can't be so blind to unanimously tag him as Prospect of the Year if that was his level. Agree on Barker's chances against Sturm, he's a good fighter, but his best performance was a convincing loss.

Guys you are falsely assuming that Martinez is actually trying to fight proven contenders, he is just looking for a payday, Pirog gave him one and he refused simply because he thought he could get a better payday and now probably had to fight for half of what he could have.

Didn't know about Jacobs unanimously being made prospect of the year, only Rafael, whose prospects regularly get knocked out the next year, and The Ring, which unfortunately cannot be regarded as entirely neutral. Also was referring to Jacobs not Barker when I said "there's really no reason to believe he could he could put on the kind of performance that Macklin had against even a slowing down Sturm."

Who did the other big guys have as POY? So you don't think a guy as fleet of foot and hand, with decent power and slickness (maybe a shaky jaw? would it matter against Sturm?) belongs with the murderers row of Murray, Macklin, Gevor, Randy Griffin, Castillejo?

I dunno, neither Rafael nor The Ring ever ranked him above such guys despite the plaudits they gave him as a prospect.

Him and his promoter outright refused, they actually said they would be willing to fight Pirog for 6 million lol.

In Moscow. They said they'd be willing to fight him in the States if he or Pelullo did something for the first time in ages and a fight was actually built but DiBella does not want to be forced into taking on a guy like Dzinziruk who does next to nothing to help with the promotion.

All these guys got their ranking by giving Sturm a hard time. Add them all up, you can't find a world class win there but for their efforts against Sturm.

And you're being very literal with the rankings. I suppose Murray and Zbik are better scalps than Golovkin and Quillin? Rhodes was a great win for Canelo? Where do the Ring and Rafael rank Russell Jr in relation to Billy Dib?

I like the Lee fight, although I'd be sad to see Lee get starched (which he will).

Macklin was rated by both before the Sturm fight. And I mean you could probably add up the resumes of whichever 20 best fighters in the division excluding Martinez and Sturm and find very few world class wins.

Of course these ratings aren't the gospel truth or anything and I've been quite critical of a number of decisions The Ring board has made in the past. However, it's interesting that the people who bought the most into the Jacobs hype never found a place for him in a thin middleweight division. I also think in assessing the quality of victories, one needs to rely on a bit more than how much "potential" guys appear to have as prospects; thus I probably wouldn't be as impressed with a victory over Golovkin or Quillin as most here simply because of how thin their professional resumes are (though I wouldn't go so far as to say it would be less impressive than a win over Zbik or Murray since I find their resumes equally lacking especially since I disagree with several official results from both). This of course is also why I am not as impressed by the Jacobs win, whose inactivity, though obviously involuntary, has not exactly made it look better with time.

Jacobs looked vulnerable against some C level fighters while Golovkin is dispatching them brutally that is the difference. They were both good amateurs which increase their hype. Also Douge Fisher has adopted Golovkin after the death of Valero.
