A lot of folks around here using that fighter-A, fighter-B logic. Pavlik beat Rubio easier than Chavez Jr. and Pavlik lost to Martinez so naturally, Martinez beats Chavez Jr. :patsch

People forget, that even though Pavlik was in the midst of spiraling out of control into alcoholism, there were large parts of the match where he was beating the mess out of Martinez. Then Pavlik got cut, and we all know what happened after that.

Chavez Jr. has a lot of qualities that Martinez just hasn't faced in his fights at 154-160. One being a very solid chin. The closest example of what Martinez would face and how he would deal is his early match up with Margarito:

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJmvPPYIdV8[/ame]

Now before you start crying and say "he was only 16 fights in", "he fights completely differently now", watch the whole fight. He fights exactly the same. Sure he has more experience now, but he throws the same straight left, uses the same lateral movement (actually, he moved more in the Marg fight cause he's younger), and throws the same type of combinations coupled with clinching and turning his opponent.

Pressure fighters, who like to fight inside with power, (Paul Williams has none) who throw a variety of shots (hooks and uppercuts) with a good/great chin, to take the shots they'll inevitably get tagged with, can cause HUGE amounts of problems for Martinez.

As fast as Martinez is, he was still getting tagged numerous times by slow ass Margarito cause of the intelligent pressure, placement and variety (head+body) of shots he was throwing. Add that to the punching power (*) Antonio had and you have a TKO victory over Martinez. I'm not saying Chavez Jr. hits as hard as Margarito used to (*), but he can bang and has the style to cause Martinez absolute fits.

No problem. People think Chavez Jr. is a plodder, but he's not. As big as he is, he moves quite a bit when he has to and can cut off the ring pretty damned well.

He won't be a completely stationary target and is so big, that Martinez won't be able to clinch as effectively to negate the inside fight that will be Jr.'s bread and butter if they match up.

Well, Martinez didn't KO Pavlik, did he? :huh

My point is, if Martinez didn't KO Pavlik, he probably won't KO Chavez Jr (unless a freak busted eardrum injury occurs). Pavlik has been stunned as well, so I can't assign degrees of "iron chindedness" but Chavez Jr. has a very good one.

The vast majority of P. Willies game is accumulation. He is not a power puncher at all. He really doesn't have the one shot KO power. If you think he does, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news. He throws so many damned punches, it's the sheer amount that gets you outta there.

Martinez is fun to watch, but he fights the same way every fight...Margarito ****ed him up good with pressure, and punches on the inside...And Margrito is slow as hell...

The best assesement is a 50/50 chance.

Did you watch the Margarito fight??:huh

    He fights the SAME way.

Pavlik was simply standing there for large moments in time where Martinez unloaded straight rights and lefts. There wasn't any super variety. And Kelly still won a majority of the middle rounds.

Quintana got destroyed and stopped by Cotto in 5 or 6 rounds like 2 years before he outboxed somebody to a easy points win. That somebody was "most feared" and future "p4p" #3 (lmao) Paul Williams

Kelly Alcoholvlik who by 2010 days consisted of 80% drinking 15% rehab and 5% boxing training

    Martinez KO2'd Pwill... ok
Martinez beat (schooled my ass) Alcoholvlik

    Jr outpoints Martinez

I don't know how much better he's become to be honest...I think a pre-Mosley Margarito brutally kicks his ass again...

JCC may be able too as well.

If Martinez is an easy fight for Chavez whom you people claim is a solid pressure fighter, the fight would of been done already. Or do you really believe Arum when he says Martinez brings nothing to the table, yet we are to believe Manfredo, Rubio and Zbik do? There is a reason this fight is not been done and its not because of fans or money because Martinez brings more to the table than all of JR's rivals combined.
