Honestly this is a toss up fight I don't understand how some people just rule out hmm Jmm keeps proving people wrong time after time And also keep in my mind Marquez is great at making adjustments Maybe he doesn't steam roll through everyone but he always makes adjustments to adapt to the fight. I see this as a 50/50
Pre weight drained 130 Chavez circa Mario Martinez/Rocky Lockridge probably stops Marquez late or wins clearly by 4 or 5 rounds. The one that faced Laporte would win by 2 or 3 rounds. 135 and above would be one-sided beatdowns of the Rosario variety.
Jmm by 11-1the decision Chavez would get peppered all night long because jmm would keep the fight in the outside. Ridiculous matchup imo.
If people think he is great like Chavez then he is way overrated. He lost to John, he fought Pacman and never beat him. Barrera was way past his prime. his competition after that has been mediocre. You cannot make great fighters by saying it, it has to be proven with competition .Floyd outclassed him. I do not see the greatness of Chavez or close. He is not Pacman even though he can compete with Pacman's style. Now they are giving him the WBO title by fighting another mediocre guy. Why isn't Marquez fighting a guy like Bradley? Khan? After his fight with Pacman?
I don't think the fight would be much harder than when Chavez beat Jose Luis Ramirez. Chavez was a true great and took on all comers. No comparison at all.
not dismissing him. He is a very good fighter, but the standard of what makes a guy great now has been lowered. His career is not something where you say he could beat other ATG fighters. All the guys he beat were either older or not to the top level. And he lost to John and lost easily to Floyd. And why doesn't he fight better guys when he is not fighting Mayweather or Pacman. He has a list of very good fighters to fight Khan, Rios, etc.
Chavez could Garner top fights in his prime, he had all of Mexico behind him after he beat up 200 cab drivers infront of them. Rosario is Chavez' best performance to me. Marquez had no giant fanfare to aquire big fights, his first title shot was against Freddie Damn Norwood. It's also conceivable that had Marquez had more star power he'd have the victory in atleast one of the Pacquaio fights. Marquez is a smarter fighter than Chavez was, Julio will open up to attack, and Marquez will land his punches. It would be a real close fight, and probably 52-48 in favour of Chavez in my book.
Also, Marquez is old now and still fighting at the top level. Chavez at this point was getting battered and bloodied by Oscar, and smashed all around the ring by Kostya.
I think every ESB poll ever done on this match-up (and there have been many) has wound up being a slaughter for JCC.
So it's almost not even a bad thing that the TS forgot to include a poll, since it would just be a redundancy of data that we've already gathered several times over. :yep
