This is the most controversial fight ever because the fight was stopped 5 seconds before the final round. From the scorecards, Taylor was ahead so is what said also by HBO commentators. Had referee Steele didnt stop the fight too soon, Taylor wins the fight as many people had said. Taylor was knocked out in the last 2 seconds but Merchant said if he gets up he probably won the fight and Jim Lampley says 'unbelievable". Watch the last 2 final exciting minutes and you be the judge. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgenYK7VaxY[/ame]
No, the stoppage was correct. Taylor, the fight was for 12 rounds. Not 11 and a half. The ref isn't concerned about the time, he's concerned about Taylor and Taylor wasn't all there.
Taylor had the second best win of his career a year after losing to Chavez. I just figured I'd throw that out there before the exaggerated "Chavez completely ruined Taylor" claims come out.
Taylor was so stupid! He knew that he was ahead in those scorecards but why he traded punches with Chavez in the last round. Anyway, both Taylor and Steel made terrible mistakes in this fight.
Yes. Fight was about to be over anyway. Allow the kid to have his hard fought victory. Damage was already done. And I don't care what Steel tries to put over the boxing fans. This is one decision I believe without a doubt he regrets.
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't he instructed to do so by his corner? If my memory serves me correct.
You mean do what DLH did with Trinidad? No thanks. I love DLH, but that **** to this day pisses me off. He had the fight and ran because he thought he had it locked. Like o said, steele doesn't have a stop watch on him, nor should he. When Taylor got up, he was visibly dazed and looked confused, and steele called it. He's not thinking, "oh well there's 25 or 15 or 5 seconds left, ill just stall to give you the fight son." Simply put, in 12 rounds, Chavez wore him down...barely but he did.
