Now this is more bull**** than OP.

Single Punch Roy Jones Jr is faster and is one of the fastest if not the fastest P4P ever

Punches in a Combination (of more than 4) JC was faster

Calzaghe had above average speed but it was his work rate that was his best trait

Roy Jones had unbelievable hand speed

I even doubt that. RJJ used to put together some sick 5, 6 and 7 punch combos in his prime with great speed and power.

cal was fast because he never sat down on his punches at al, roy threw his punches faster though and with so much more power. roy was so damn fast he tell you what punch was coming and land it before you could prepare. He was so fast he'd let off combination after combination while having a full on conversation with lampley. joe threw ...cat paws at people, and he was pretty fast with it, but in comparison to a prime roy...no comparison. roy had that speed that killed, joe had that quickness that scored points

If you watch Calzaghe he has two modes of speed -

    1. One is where he boxes, and hes fast but not as fast as Roy Jones, but he tends to hit accurately.

    2. In the second mode, he moves his hands faster and more frequently but hes not actually aiming them, its as as if hes a whirligig machine, relying on his fitness edge to keep them hands inj motion. But he is largely slapping with his wrists, and rarely actually punching, and almost all the blows in this mode land on shoulders and arms of his opponent inflicting no damage.
Its his cheat mode, if you like, where he cons refs into thinking he is striking his opponent. That works well when he fights in Cardiff to get hometown decisions, but nearly cost him a SD when he faced a mere old man in Hopkins.

Whereas Roy is much faster with 'real' punches that are intended to land accurately and hurt.

Obviously Roy would tear Calzaghe apart in a viciously tough match of primes.

yes it works well against 40something american greats.

Oh it would work a treat against a midforties Sugar Ray Robinson, a forty four year old Duran, a fortysomething Rocky Marciano and a midforties Ali too.

midforties, you are always uphill agaisnt a near prime HOFer, no matter who you are.
