RJJ was turning his punches unlike Cal so in a way it doesn't matter who was faster as they were not trowing the same type of punches. My girlfriend has faster hands than me what does it matter she doesn't know how to trow a punch .
yes and Clazaghe used to punch like Foreman but he broke his hands and lost that power Calzaghe fans just dont allow us normal boxing fans to like him because of this kind of threads. Only think Calzaghe had on Roy is work rate and thats it, and stop comparing these two Roy wins over Toney and Hopkins > anything Joe ever did :hi:
i dont think Hopkins at 42 (44?) had the lungs to quite match Cal who was near prime at the time. Cal was always going to be able to outgun an old man purely on lung power. That was basically his gameplan when faced with a superior boxer, wait till they age. If Hopkins had asked for a ten round contest then he would probably have won a SD, without that horrible gassing after round 6, he would be ahead on points by the final tenth round, you see. If you think about thats an incredible acheivement by BHop, to actually go out in his FORTIES without fear against a near prime HOFer (Cal is a HOFer, he holds record) and almost very nearly take the decision - thats a testamount to his skill level and why he can still hold a title today.
I went from not giving a **** about Slappy (like most of the world) to absolutely hating the guy because of threads like these and his over the top nuthuggers.
Outworking the opponent was Calzaghes gameplan for all his opponents, but you miss out that he tried to make the fight with Hopkins 2002. Hopkins is an ATG and a tremendous fighter. I respect him more than I respect Calslappy or Roid Jones. But he performed poorly that evening, and his antics were embarassing. Calslappy performed bad as well, for the record.
Please, stop embarrassing yourself. This is woeful stuff. You clearly don't understand the difference between light-handed flurrying and actual striking speed. Anyone can look like they have lightning fast hands if their punching style is to throw light flurries close to their own body. Literally anyone can make their hands look fast doing that. True handspeed is someone who can unleash punches from distance thrown with power and technique that land before the opponent can react. In short, true handspeed is Roy Jones. What a horrible pile of fail this thread is!!
