I havent rewatched it since it happened so I admit my memory could be off on it, but I think Williams vs Martinez 1 was more of a battle then a lot of fighters are ever in, and I think Martinez passed that with flying colors. Granted, that was a few years ago now, but I think Martinez has shown he can be in a dogfight without crumbling. And williams isnt a knock you cold type fighter but hes not feather fisted either.

But ya James would be a different kind of beast for sure, but he can also be a lot more vulnerable then a prime williams was.

Man, I'm just sick and tired of coming to the main board and getting my ass on these matters... But I'll do it for this time. James Kirkland has alredy proved to be a top Junior Middleweight and that comes with boxing skills, strength, punching power, ability to stand hard paces and deliever hard punches. He has passed the exam of chin checking 2 due to great training and great psychology training. The man is sure to get a title shot at one of the major titlists, Canelo ( or Mosley), Williams or Cotto in qa matter of time. Now, would he accept a fight with ageing Sergio Martinez, the late bloom "Maravilla" who was a soccer player and still combines excellent footwork with a knockout punch? Sure, he would but at 154pounds and for the right money but not before preparing himself to chase, corner and work on Sergio's body and head in close to the point that Sergio would have to go again for a 10th or 11th round kayo punch but in the opposite side is another kayo puncher so... I hope I have answered well enough so that we can both picture that possible coming fight, t y.

Dorf that is a very unbiased, objective and thorough response to the thread. Shame you don't post as often as you'd like.

Grizzy, I like Maravilla and I like Kirkland and they are top fighters but I can't play games with words around here cause Martinez would have to come down to fight James and DiBella wants him to overgrow and lose mobility to represent another name on ageing Martinez resumé. Let's face it, Martinez would go down to face Pac or Floyd and that's just about it. Why waist more time and words, buddy?

Kirkland is one of those fighter's who's just dangerous to anyone. I'd favor Martinez, but I would not be shocked at all if his beastly pressure early on overwhelmed Sergio and pulled an upset, or at least did a lot of damage. He is just so hyper-aggressive.

Julio didn't land **** Albert he was on the backfoot running all night

And he took ONE shot from Mr less skill than margarito which almost knocked his ass out, he was lucky Margo lite couldn't shoot fish in a barrel and gassed out.

When you get your ass raped by a feather fisted jap you have no chin. None.

But It's okay Albert keep suckin dem black dicks

As a side note, a question that seems to dominate any James Kirkland discussion this one included, how long does an Ishida-like loss effect the perception of a fighter? Is it something where a fighter is always defined by it, no matter the accomplishments since?

Yes, it's a fight that will always define Kirkland. Just look at Mayweather. The Castillo fight is mentioned a lot despite everything Mayweather has accomplished since then, and despite the fact that Mayweather beat him again in a rematch in his very next fight. The Ishida fight will never leave the minds of many boxing fans. It will follow Kirkland his entire career, and he'll just have to keep proving himself.

Mandingo has a punchers chance vs anyone. His determination and youth adv could give Sergio nightmares, but I think Sergio just too smart and too dangerous even for Mandingo. Sergio has that power that even Kirkland would say "Dayum!!!"

    Kirkland would trouble Alvarez IMO.

Martinez would make easy work of Kirkland.

    I'd have kirkland as a 7-1 underdog.

Kirkland can only fight one way.

    He'll walk into something big.

I think Sergio would take him out in 2
