Kinda sorta....In the sense that without a shadow of a doubt Hagler would have been the undisputed king of his era if not arguably all-time pfp if he beat Leornard. And could of if he didn't try to box with him the first 3 rounds or so, if he woulda been looking to ko him from the bell he would of won (maybe convincingly). His legacy would be greater if he Leonard by a more of a consensus I think.

Hagler's problem is he brought the SRL loss down on himself, plus the Vito I and Duran fights as curious efforts.

Monzon would have just beaten those 3 Hagler opponents up just for the hell of it.

I dont believe he was denied being considered great. He is very much considered great. I don't agree. I think he was a very good fighter but if he fought in the 50 and early 60's, he would barely make the top 10 among middleweights in that era. Guys like giardello, giambra, castellani, tiger jones, eduardo lausse, holly mims, fullmer, spider webb, dick tiger all were his equal or better.

Top 5 ATG Middleweight. Of course, he wasnt denied Greatness. He toiled for it and was consumed with it; he took it and earned it.

Hagler was not only Not denied greatness but he ranks within the top 5 of the divisions best imo, just a terrific, all around fighter and great champion.

not forgetting that Hagler was undisputed champ for 6 years. Thats almost unfathomable when you tihnk of todays fighters who haggle over bit parts of titles.

many so-called long term champs of today wouldnt be able to even unify the crown for a year.

Great point. He was in a no win situation by that time but the $$$ was there.

I think the way he walked away and never cameback holds him in higer regard. No images of Hagler being KOd by a Camacho or a Norris.

I`ll always remember Marvin Hagler as a testament to mental toughness. The longer they made him wait the more determined he became. Bad decisions just made him meaner. He cameback and destroyed the same guys in rematches. He was everything a Champion should be.

no, hagler was great before the leonard fight and a dodgy loss in vegas to the media good guy was always on the cards if the fight went the distance so cannot affect his standing alongside the greats of the sport

No , he had established his position as one of the top 5 middles of all time before he met Leonard.

It wouldn't of done him any harm getting the nod over Leonard, but Hagler is and already was Great.

Hagler earned his stripes and his greatness.

I was a kid in the 80s and the name Hagler inspired fear when you just read it in the newspaper. And that was before you even knew who he was. There was a megatough character in a movie I saw that was directly inspired by Hagler (the bald baddass in sunglasses in 'Demons', I'm sure noones seen this trashy movie but he was ultramean. Who knows maybe it was him lol).

He helped make being bald respectable (in the don sense).

no. Hagler's greatness came many years earlier. The loss came at the end of his career much like Ali's
