Yes, because he won't fight Martinez, so how can you get beat if you don't fight the guy?

Martinez fights like that to bait his opponents.

He raises them when he has too.

    He's a patient thinking fighter.

I don't know if he would beat Floyd, but his size, skills and ability, would play a significant factor.

But, it's irrelevant, because Floyd was supposed to fight Cotto several years ago, Margarito several years ago, Pac today....etc etc etc...

    So let's be honest...

This fight is NEVER going to happen.

    It is what it is.

I will say this though, in past fights (unless there is an exception I don't know about), Floyd fights southpaws with an aggressive style.

If he is aggressive against Martinez, he gets knocked the **** out.

He has to be incredibly patient, extremelly accurate, and on his A+++ game, and sit back and box Martinez.

But even then, Martinez won't go out like a *****. He'll try to win no matter what, and I'm not sure Mayweather has the game changing punch to significantly discourage Martinez.

I will say his accuracy could play a significant factor....

However, Martinez is incredibly accurate too.

This is the type of fight that even if Floyd wins, there will be some slow motion shots of Floyd gettin his head snapped back.

    That's bad for Floyd's image.

He won't take this fight based on that. He can make money fighting guys who are less dangerous but have a name, like Cotto.

I'm not sayin Cotto is a soft touch, but he's no Martinez.

Obviously it is an opinion statement from Smith. Only person i see have a good chance of beating Floyd is Martinez.

But what i don't understand why people are trying to blame floyd for Cotto not happening at 140? Cotto and Bob both said they are not ready for Mayweather. Arum protects his fighters which is why Lopez never fought Gamboa. Floyd did avoid Margartio but for legit reasons. People need to actually following boxing. this is a boxing forum

I don't think the 140 situation is an issue.

I'm talking about when they were trying to make a fight with Floyd after Cotto got past Gomez, before Margarito.

Additionally, I think people expected Cotto to beat Margarito.

When that didn't happen, it didn't really matter though because Margarito had been calling out Floyd for a while and just got the biggest win of his career.

I know I wanted to see Floyd fight Cotto and Margarito.

And it didn't happen....just like I don't expect Martinez and Floyd to happen.

With the level of opposition he has faced that style is sufficient with Floyd it's not!

He does think but he can't out think Floyd he may have power and size on his side and that may be enough to see him through who knows.

Cotto (recently) has said he never asked for the Mayweather fight, despite Mayweather being the #1 guy for years.....why wouldn't you ask for your shot against the P4P #1 :huh

Mayweather and Ellerbe have said they asked for the fight but Top Rank turned them down. - "Cotto isn't ready"

Margo wanted to fight Mayweather no doubt but he (Money) had already chosen fight Baldomir who was WW champion at the time and for more money than what Bob was offering to fight Margo, from memory I don't think Margo had any titles at that time. Plus Mayweather already had bought out his contract with Top Rank to fight Margo he would have had to resign with them.

So when you look at it you want Floyd to resign for a promoter who was ripping him off, to fight Margo for less money and no titles? Doesnt make sense.

Now with hindsight we know that Margo is a better opponent than Carlos but at the same time we didnt know that then and add into the fact that Margo is a cheater I don't consider this an issue.

The last one you mentioned (Pacquiao) we all know that has turned out to be a debarcle but pick whichever side you want.

You may be right it may never happen....if it didnt I would be pissed because Mayweather said "no excuses if he can make 150 we can make it happen" so he should stick to his word.

Actually, if you check my post history under another username, I was talkin all sorts of **** about Floyd choosing to fight Baldomir instead of Margarito.

But that's because I knew Margarito vs Floyd would be a much more FAN friendly fight.

I get that there is a risk vs reward ratio to consider, but as a fan, I don't care about that.

Think about this fight...it's a decent fight, and it has a decent risk vs reward ratio.

In contrast, Floyd may make the same money fightin Martinez, but there is a MUCH higher risk.

And I'm tired of this ****, but it is what it is. Floyd is not going to change because fans want him to fight a fight he doesn't want to fight.

I'd say nobody up to 165lb catchweights. Floyd is good up to around 18lbs heavier than he is...
