HBO is sitting on a pile of cash after Rios/Gamboa fell out, they have to be the ones pushing for this.

    I am highly skeptical.

GBP and TR relations thawing, at least temporarily?

    I would be shocked.

Kirkland better just be focused on his business at hand anyway.

I'll believe it when I see it. This just seems like the typical Top Rank gesture of mentioning a good opponent so they can pretend they tried to do better when they serve up the **** fight they were planning all along (see also: "We tried our hardest to get Maidana for Bradley, but instead you'll get an opponent almost just as exciting in Casamayor!")

what bothers me is that if GBP is entertaining this, then they pretty much have no intention of making the more logical fight, Canelo-Kirkland. It's absolute confirmation that Canelo will be protected until he fights Floyd.

But Kirkland was being lined up to fight Sergio last year, before he lost to Ishida and we got the Barker fight. So there is evidence that GBP would be willing to throw him into a big 160 fight.

    Kirkland is a good opponent?

I guess it is for Chavez, who sucks and has zero D.

Canelo would knock out Kirkland inside of 2 rounds. I guess some people might want to see that just to laugh.

Clearly better than Vanes and Margarito, the two smaller guys that Top Rank is actually considering.

JR would knock Kirkland out. But it doesn't matter, like another poster said..Molina is going to win anyway. :yep

Vanes is way better than Kirkland and would probably run a clinic on Chavez. He's also bigger(taller) than both Kirkland and Chavez.

    Maragarito...eh.

Kirkland's victory over rusty Angulo shits on Vanes' entire resume of gatekeepers and club fighters (and his robbery of Ouma). There is absolutely no reason to regard him as having a chance against any top 10 junior middleweight given the utterly putrid level of competition he's faced, never mind Chavez.

My first reaction was "Who is this Mannix to get a shot.....?" :D

The TR/GBP truce didn't last long after Oscar's make nice efforts because they turned around and put up a free TV card against a TR pay per view. Instant implosion.
