Firstly.... I do like watching Welliver and Demori fight... But gotta say.... You think Alex has bad management! - lol - umm depends what you call bad. Noel Thornberry does not take on many fighters - however the ones he does take - all seem to all get legitimate title shots. just off the top of my head he got multiple title shots for Shannon Taylor, Maselino Masoe, Rick Thornberry, Jamie Pittman and even a shot for Gavin Topp against Sturm! I'm not real confident about the upcoming Johnson fight results but I can confidently say that a win by Alex will exceed anything done by de Mori or Welliver to date. I really hope Welliver does get the HBO Mitchell fight, if he wins it it could lead to big money fights against Peters, or Arreola and that would be good for everyone. If Alex wins I bet we see him against some of the big UK names in the near future. Despite what Chauncy says I see De Mori as a harder sell - I feel we are more likely more likely to see de mori against the tough but not at this stage world beating Colin Wilsons and Big Bobs for a while longer yet.
It's flattering for Mark deMori to have his name mentioned anywhere near Alex Leapai. Why? Because since mid 2010, Leapai has fought and beaten >>> Travis Walker (recent winner over Kali Meehan), Owen Beck, Darnell Wilson, Jason Barnett, Peter Okello, Evgeny Orlov, Troy Wenda and next up has a huge bout against Kevin 'King Pin' Johnson. Whilst during the same period deMori has fought only Dom Alexander and the thankfully now retired Rob Calloway. As deMori recently said himself, 'I've achieved what I set out to achieve and now I'm in it for the entertainment'. By contrast, from Leapai's recent activity and the level of his opponents, he's in it with a view to actually get somewhere.
Absolutely it's flattering but I think it is because people can see his potential when he fights, see his professionalism, he is always stays in shape and can pull a crowd and get people talking about him. Everyone takes different routes to get to where they want to in their career and with mark wanting to fight in the States I would still think he is closer to getting back there and fighting sooner than Alex is. Yes Alex has fought better opposition, but is he closer to getting put on American cards than Mark is, in my opinion no. Nothing to do with his boxing skill, or who is better, just different routes and goals. Seeing as you like the pics so much Spider, enjoy. CHAUNCY WELLIVER - Sorry to say mate..but you are delusional.. Alex has recently been in the ring with and did beat I might add,Beck,Walker,Wilson,Peter and now Johnson(if wins)... Welliver to be honest and I hope your going to be realistic with yourself here..your best victory is against a blown up not active cruiserweight named Lawrence Tuasa. How can you say Leapai wont sell and he is not ranked and has no name.Mate he has not only fought but also beaten the better opposition by a country mile, has a name and IS ranked. If I was Chauncy Welliver, and 'Iv lost so much weight, and im so much better compared to my Solis fight and Im the most active heavy around and ill fight any one any where and Im 100 plus round undefeated' etc etc..why are you fightin guys like Tuasa? Galen Brown? Calloway?etc etc They are NOT money fights ..Why not step up and fight Leapai? Has a better name, resume and can create more money then any of your previous fights..your excuse just make no sence mate sorry to say
Adam Flores (Gym Manager), Victor Cayo, Mark DeMori, Gabriel Sarmiento & Sergio Martinez. Nice photo from a couple years back.
When people talk about Marks inactivity these are the guys he trained with for 6 months. Always an argument if you learn more fighting or training, but being around that caliber for 6 months in hardly the typical 'inactivty'
If you learnt more from training than fighting don't you think the majority of fighters would be taking and 1 and 2 year breaks to 'learn' atsch That idea is your best since you thought deMori beat Alexander under the non-existent 4 knockdown rule
I think Mark wasted those 6 months posing at the gym he hasn't changed his footwork is awful, he carries his hands low when attacking as he fights low standard opponents that don't fight back he can get away with it, but anyone decent he will gas himself out after 6 and get ko'd
Actually yes that's exactly what they do if they get found out lacking something in the ring. The book 'The Outliers' talks about the much quoted requirement to rack up 10 thousand hours in something in order to be a Master in that field. Pretty sure fighters don't rack up 10 thousand hours of fight time.
It's people with little to no knowledge of boxing, such as yourself, that keep this place so entertaining in between fights. If you are going to try and revolutionize the sport you might as well advocate for the 4 knockdown rule as well
