for these boxers who earned a meager leaving, it's just tempting to just accept the additional $10k (around P430k here which is a big plus) and sacrifice the whooping that you'll get from a bigger opponent so i really am admiring mayol's stance here.

THis whole thing about not making weight is very unprofessional but let's face it, in this particular case there seems to be something else going on.

Mayol has had no problems coming in the heavier fighter on less significant
fights(non-title) and might not get a shot at another belt for a while so why not just take the fight.

 

that's the answer my friend. Of course, with another chance at a title, they don't want to get screwed. In fact a ruckus like this might leave the belt vacant with Mayol and another contender fighting for it.

it's tempting even with the extra money. remember that mayol and his team had some overhead expenses here and would be glad just to get it back. they are taking a stance here out of principle. you could not just cheat your way into weighing and act like it never happened.

This is absolute bull**** what has gone down. Makes Mexico look like a 5th world country for supporting corruption to such a level. Marquez needs to be stripped of his WBA belt, and 10% of his purse should go to Mayol. Furthermore, if this fight doesn't happen, then the money can come from the next time Marquez fights. I also appreciate Pacquiao stepping up for his countryman, and offering him a spot on his next PPV card.
