...I think the final truly ironic twist would be seeing this man

    knocked out by this man

That would be quite ironic - an outcome to an event contrary to what would, or might be, expected.

The final ironic twist, is the fact that you didnt bother to look in what year (how many years after Sullivan retired) the latter photo was taken.

    It "Boggles" the mind!

You're right, that was deliberately misleading.

This charcoal rendering would put up a better fight:

Sullivan would actualy do a lot better under modern rules than Jeffries.

He was an expert at 4 rounds, 6 rounds and 75 rounds.

He might have been a bit wooly in betweein!

:Dfair enough. and i'll admit, even as a huge fan of wlad, he hardly cuts a frantic pace. one shot at a time might well fall into sullivans own game plan. but the size difference and that jab make me think sullivan is outgunned in this one

Primitive brawler... wouldn't be able to hit my shadow. I'd land 10 to his 1

There are pleanty of photos of him while he was active, if you bothered to look for them.

    Either:

    A. You actualy thought that that photo was of him while he was an active profesional fighter.

    or

    B. You knew it wasn't, but presented it as such to further your argument.

Outside of an early puncher's chance for Sullivan, he's in over his head. I don't necessarily need film to rate a fighter. There is no film on Greb, however his resume of wins is outstanding, and I have seen film on fighters he meet and defeated.

Sullivan has no film except for a quick clip of him in his older years hitting a bag very poorly. So I go to his resume of wins, and they are thin. Had Sullivan fought and beaten Jackson, Goodard, or Slavin I would feel comfortable rating him higher.

Essentially he was a great puncher who didn't fight great competition.

No, he dictates the pace that works best for him. And in the last 6 or 7 years, no one has been able to take the reigns from him in a fight in regards to the pace at which it is fought.

I think that if they were required to knock back of fifth of rotgut, moonshine whiskey before the fight and to drink warm beer in the corner between rounds that the Great John L. would beat the hell out of that sissy.
