Marquez initially weighed in 2 pounds over the limit. He then took off pieces of clothing, weighed in two more times, was still overweight, including without a stitch of clothing on his person. Finally, 2-3 MINUTES after the initial weighing, Marquez was shielded on all sides by members of his team while he weighed in while holding onto the scale, members of his team were supporting parts of his body, and his feet were partly off the scale. The WBA accepted this 4th attempt. "Shameful" doesn't begin to describe it.

Box Azteca has it 96-92 for Marquez.

Like me, they gave Mepranum the tenth.

This isn't actually for the WBA flyweight title due to Mepranum being a late sub; therefore only 10 rounds. Not the 12 Marquez was scheduled to go with Mayol.

    Official cards:

    Cesar Ramos 95-93
    Octavio Rodiregez 96-92
    Enrique Porto Carrero 97-91

...winner by unanimous decision, Hernan "Tyson" Marquez

Judges Ramos y Rodriguez seemed to be right within the proper range for me (wouldn't have even minded a razor-thin card for Mepranum despite being dropped a couple of times).

Carrero maybe strayed a bit far in Marquez's favor..

If it's only 10 rounds, it's surely because Mepranum had planned to fight at 115, and then obviously couldn't make 112 pounds for a title fight.

OK, Richie Mepranum has definitely earned my respect.

Up through 2009 I used to think of him as nothing but a simple-minded slugger & a wannabe Pacquiao, but the kid has really sharpened up his boxing skills and proved that his previous win over Marquez was no fluke - he really is on about the same level!

I thought the fight was closer than the scorecards indicated.

    Yeah.

IMO the two knockdowns should have prevented Marquez from losing, but only just. (ie either a narrow win or a draw)

IB, thank you for the RBR coverage!!! I found a small story that simply said Marquez won the fight, but it didn't describe the action or provide the scores. From your RBR, it seems Mepranum would have been good value for a draw. I would be very interested in seeing this fight on replay. Full credit to Mepranum, he found out essentially literally at the last minute that he was to fight Marquez, and yet he put in a worthy performance like that!!! I want to see his fights going forward!!!

Injured one during the fight? :think

He threw both with impunity, pretty much throughout. :yep
