Boxing is going to be without a great historian now.

man. he was just quoted in an article on the scene less than a week ago. Seems sudden though I know he was recovering from some sort of health thing.

    A fitting and honest tribute.
Like most,I didn't always agree with Bert, but he had an aura that seemed to force me to respect him,and that's not a common trait.
Another big loss for the game.:-(

:goodCouldn''t have said it better. And the part about "old school" is whats really sad, because once those days are gone, thats it, no more.

I'm really gonna miss this guy. The same in person as you see on TV. A few years back, we went to the Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, NY. I met Bert at night walking into Graziano's Restaurant (right across from the IBHOF) & spotted him immediately sitting in a booth with 2 other guys. I worked my way through the crowd & got by their table & asked Bert for an autograph.

    Ya know what he said???

"Sit down buddy, whats your name?" We all talked for 30+ minutes, I was in amazement & then he signed my book, got up & moved on.

Great boxing fan experience because of a great guy. Bert Sugar.

    R.I.P.
