@OP and Rico I am unsure who is the "better puncher" to be frank. Earnie is obviously the harder puncher whilst Wladimir is the better boxer and thus able to utilize his physical and technical dimensions. The averaged and expected impact, given the combination of technique (or lack thereof) and power (or lack thereof), is something I am intrigued by. It is all conjecture, though, as we cannot just log on Fight Night or some simulation and then exclaim "A-ha!" when the scenarios enter each fighter as damaging or finishing a shared opponent more effectively or efficiently. I am skeptical of the claims of Wladimir having otherworldly power due what Jack pointed out. Granted, he did end Eddie Chambers with one hook when he decided to, but to really get a feel for the average expected force of impact, we also have to evaluate when, why, and under what conditions would a boxer "go all out". Wladimir's "normal punches" are frought with hesitation, as is the case with Haye. His style is laden with-- no, it is centered around trepidation, though, so can we really put a mystique to his power?-- heralding it as some beast which is rarely unleashed? For the same reasons that Earnie has poor form and is unable to execute the full extent of his natural gifts, so too must we hold for Wladimir's technical drawbacks which inhibit the full actualization of his power. Whether he can be, may be, or is an actual monster puncher is irrelevant. He does not show enough evidence of it for us to concretely believe such. You have a few scintillating KOs of moderate to poor competition versus the combined word of a select group of heavyweights who come from a time in which boxing mentality was not only different, but heavyweight talent was at its absolute pinnacle. This culminated in the "golden age of heavyweight boxing". It is not with rose tinted glasses or arbitrary bias these boxers, and naturally their opinions as well, are conferred so much weight. Under these auspices and restrictions, we must thereby assume Shavers is the superior puncher-- even in accounting for the vast gulf in technical skill between him and Wladimir.
tuas left hook isnt in the leugue of shavers right hand/im a huge tyson fan but tyson was more of a pin point puncher....lewis right hand probobly on par with shavers right hand,,,,,, wlads right hand no were near as shavers or lennox.....but wlads left hook/uppercut better than lennox and shavers left hook.....and tyson and tua have the best left hook of the bunch.
You really tried. While there can be a difference in opinion in these kind of threads I think that there is enough anecdotal evidence and testimonies to make a more compelling case for Earnie Shavers as being the bigger puncher. There is no doubt in my mind that Wladimir is a much better fighter, a class above actually, but in terms of punching power I'm more inclined to give Shavers the edge. I think you're conflating punching power with finishing ability. If Shavers had the finishing abilities of Joe Louis or Mike Tyson then he likely would have knocked out Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes. But he didn't. He was an ordinary fighter with extraordinary power. He came close, I don't think I've ever seen Muhammad Ali that hurt in any fight including the Cooper fight. Shavers dropped Holmes with a right hand that made Holmes look like he was shot; but he didn't know how to finish him. That is a reflection of his ability not his power. :good
Unless you can give me quotes from guys that took punches from both then none of this matters. It is all unverifiable opinion. Physics does tell us the bigger guy with more leverage SHOULD be able to deliver the most power though.
i mean if there was an accurate scientific way to have measured both than sure why not but this is all really speculation, in all fairness they can both throw bombs
What will Klitschko ball lickers think of next. Look at who voted for Wlad, a collection of white supremicists, dipshits and irrational Klit fans. I have now heard that Wlad is the hardest puncher ever, had the fastest hands ever, and is the most dominant champion ever. :rofl Keith
Vitali highest KO Percentage in heavyweight boxing history and Vlad one of the highest. Shavers would have no chance Vs. either Klitschkos, Shavers would get knocked out!!!!!!!
I have a sneaking suspicion there are quite a few people posting here who wouldn't know who Ernie Shavers was.
