I'm not sure why Floyd would need to do much ad******g when he was in control of the fight to the point that Ortiz needed to resort to headbutts to try to gain a material advantage. Either way, not gonna discuss this really. Floyd's looking sharp in there now.
yes and no. wasn't a big deal just sayin expected a complete and absolute shut out. I mean Ortiz has 2 be the most mentally handicapped opponent he ever faced.
It is possible that Floyd can maintain a high level of performance for a few more years now. He's 35, but has not taken much punishment. Always comes in top condition, and doesn't get out of shape between fights. He grew up into the sport , mastered it, and has expanded his genius by being in the ring with guys like Marquez and Mosley. His defensive skills are second nature, sure to hold him in good stead for a while. Being a bit careful when you fight somebody helps too. He let Cotto and Mosely get some mileage on them before taking them on. I suspect he's doing the same with Manny. I see no decline, just a guy getting more seasoned and craftier.
What do you mean by "complete and absolute" shut out? Floyd dominated the fight end to end against a guy who outweighed him by fifteen pounds or so, had ten years of youth on him, and is generally a quick guy with ability. That's a good performance.
by the way Roy Jones Jr. was the same age as Floyd is now when he got KO'd by Tarver. Things start to go in the mid-thirties. I don't care who you are.
it is an average. every person is different. some peak at 40 not many but it happens. some crap out when they are 25. hopkins for example was at his best 37,38 years of age.
oh man ortiz is nobody dude. he has one good win at weight and was on canvas. cotto is 5x tougher opponent at lt middle. he won his last 3 by stoppage late at 154 which is hard to do (tomatoe cans yes) giant step up in class from ortiz to cotto. he would need to be more spot on or cotto will be very tough out.
We weren't even talking about Cotto. Ortiz is a good fighter. Cotto is a good fighter. For Cotto to be a serious challenge doesn't make Ortiz garbage.
Cotto is a serious challenge and Ortiz was nothing remotely near a challange but a tune up a pawn. With that said Mayweathers skills are light years above both and I was surprised how ortiz hung in there.
peopel always talking smack when it involves floyd. It is only understandable that he will decline with age that's a no brainer. But right now, he is still the man to beat.
Underestimating Ortiz would have been a mistake. He and Cotto both represent challenges. Cotto is a better fighter, particularly at 154lbs. There's no questioning that (it's unclear who was). That said, expecting Floyd to not have declined by 35 would be suspect.
:deal Yup. That was the last time he was at his absolute best. He coasted from there. He wasn't getting any better athletically. And I thought he slid one level kinda quick after arriving to 147. And maybe he did compensate that agility for strength to compete at WW. The only thing that improved over time was that he gained more strength with weight increase. However, he started to slow down over time. I didn't even think he looked that great against Hatton. The guy really wasn't moving like he used to nor was he as fast or putting combos together. Sure, compared to everyone else, yeah, he was still better; still faster; but there was a slide if you compare two of his fights back to back___one at say, 135, and that one. Of course I'm being picky and I'll point out that this Ferrari isn't quite as good/fast/agile as this other one over here.
Cotto won't be an easy target. Even in defeat Cotto kept trying, he's not a fighter to give up at any cost. I'm expecting Cotto, based on his style, to give Mayweather a good tough fight.
