Duran was brilliant against Moore. He really dominated from the start and gradually beat the hell out of the kid. He looked awesome considering he was around 20lbs and 5 years past his prime weight.

It genuinely is tragic. Chavez often gets the same treatment.

The Garden BROUGHT IT for Duran on this night, a 5-2 underdog.

This remains Duran's best performance since Montreal 1980.

Davey never should've taken this fight if his health was bad, Duran still may have beaten him if he was healthy, but Moore should've went South Bronx on Duran.

Moore's fight with Kkalule was very good stuff. Whilst weight drained and not a big puncher, the Ugandan would make a mockery of those ill-prepared (Joo; Price) and Moore did well to outlast him IMO.

It would have been a much closer fight without the thumbing in the 1st, imo. Moore just didn't have the experience to adapt after that and his opponent was the very best to exploit it. Although I still think Duran would have won a clear decision anyway.

What a performance by the hands of stone he absolutely destroys poor davey moore, what a heart he had though to stay up through all that punishment.
After watching this again i think al bernstein is not a fan of durans, keeps on and on about dirty tactics and the thumb in the 1st round,it could have been a punch that caused the eye to close?Erik morales eye was shut in the 1st round of his fight with maidana
It was funny seeing jose torres going mental ringside:rofl

Cant see amir khan lasting 3 rounds with roberto duran:deal

I remember at the time of the fight that the "Boxing News" ran a headline like "goodbye Roberto". Moore although inexperienced already had some decent wins on his ledger and had been a good amateur. Roberto just brutalised him, I sat and watched it first time round in awe.

Davey Moore had a surgery in his jaw prior 2d Duran fight , i believe it was due 2 sparring injury , plus , Duran's thumb in his i didn't help either .
google is a **** search engine since they cancelled their advanced search 4 some reason . i didn't find it with google , i just remember reading it in some forum , not necessarily here , but i believe that there r a few here who can reaffirm my claims here .

When I watched a re-run of this fight a couple of years back, there was very good commentary from Jake and Vicki LaMotta.

This was a redemption fight for Duran, after no-mas.

He showed no mercy whatsoever to the inexperienced Moore who sadly got killed in a freak auto accident five years later.

Moore's friend Barkley had hoped to avenge this loss, but, in what was to be his last great hurrah, Duran gave another outstanding performance ten years and 25 lbs beyond his best, capturing the MW title.
