Why hasn't Silva vs. GSP happened?

Doesn't make sense for either fighter or the UFC, they are champs of their division they will stay that way until one slips up and needs a pay day.

 

Cuz Dana is scared his Canadian cash cow would get his ass kicked, and doesn't want another Brock situation.
GSP losing would be the final death nail.

GSP didn't want the fight.

I don't believe he mixed it up with Sonnen and that put him off. If he thought he could outmuscle Sonnen then he wasn't very clever. Sonnen outmuscles Okami, Nate, Bisping, Silva etc so that is the wrong bench mark. GSP has sparred with big guys like Nate and Evans many times so I'm sure he knows what it feels like to mix it up.

GSP is a stud but deep down he is brains over balls and he doesn't quite have the gonads to face Silva in the same way Penn has the gonads to face him or Machida!

 

This should be identified by the UFC and Dana / Joe Silva and who ever makes the final decision

If the UFC wants this fight (and there better be a good reason why they wouldn't) then they should be forced to take the fight !!!!!

Added to that , i do believe that a BJ Penn style rant from either man closes this deal so **** protocol !!! , GSP and Silva should start screaming for this fight

This is of course , if they win there up and coming fights , thats if GSP ever fights again :think

 

Doesn't interest me, Silva KO1. GSP's bad injury and long lay-off makes fights with the new wave of top contenders (Condit, Diaz, Ellenberger, Hendricks) more appealing a prospect than a 'super fight'.

Silva Vs Jones is the one for me now and it's not happening. Neither of these fights happening is any way 'damaging' to the sport IMO, and far less a grievance to fight fans than Floyd and Manny not coming off 18 months to two years ago.

There's less for Silva to do at 185 in the forseeable future than Jones or GSP at their respective weights, but he's also far closer to retirement and much older than those two so that's no big issue. For Silva, Sonnen II, Bisping, Belcher/Palhares and maybe a retirement rematch with Belfort ;-)

For Jones, the intrigue is seeing him continue his dominance at 205 against Rashad, Henderson and possibly Gustaffson, and then re-shape and run the gauntlet at heavy.

All of these possibilities weigh up far more possible excitement for me personally than GSP/Spider of Bones/Spider.

 

Dana didn't want this fight either. They saw no reason to hurt two cash cows, especially when GSP so clearly didn't want it.

Thankfully both divisions regained some life and both guys now have contenders for the immediate future.

GSP has the clout to force the fight but he was never vocal about it or seriously requested it. I think if GSP started talking it up like Silva seemed to then it would have been made.

 

Champion fighters should be FORCED to fight outside of their weight division? Bollocks.

Bottom line is this , GSP has nothing left to do @170 , Anderson Silva has one fight left thats relevant @185 (Sonnen 2) id love to say Vitor Belfort has the tools to beat Silva but we all know how that ended , now if its a toss up between Belfort and St Pierre , then I'm afraid there's only one winner there for me , even though behind Sonnen , Belfort is the main threat to Silva , and given another chance i actually think Belfort could KO him ................... but he's had his chance

St Pierre has completely dominated the most competitive weight class in MMA for half a decade , and has looked stronger and stronger as the opponents have gotten better and better , now ................ the question mark over GSP at the moment is injury and inactivity , providing he comes back the fighter he left , he will beat Condit with ease , and if he does , the fight should be made

Ill put it to the forum like this , even out of curiosity , why do you not want to see this fight ?????

I cannot believe that people have had the brass nerve to quote Bisping , Palhares , Hendericks and Ellenberger before quoting this fight , its sickening

 

Dana not wanting the fight and St Pierre not having the balls to step up to the plate has to be conceded , but once upon a time this fight was there to be made , where has the desire for this fight gone ??? , i don't understand whats changed , this is still MMA's premier super fight

170 and 185 have nothing to offer apart from Condit and Sonnen , after that there all done

Maybe I'm a little over emotional about this but i feel very short changed at the lack of inter weight class " super fights " in the UFC

 

If he didn't want the fight why was he in Abu Dhabi ready to do the face off for a welterweight title fight with Anderson Silva when Silva ruined it by going nuts against Maia?

 

I would never make the argument that a high level pro fighter doesn't want a big challenging fight. I would make the argument that GSP would want every possible advantage before agreeing to it. He doesn't like to be in danger, he likes to be in every possible bit of control. It is why he doesn't take risks in his fights anymore, and some see him as boring.

I don't blame him though, I would be the same way I imagine. Also Dana White I imagine could make the fight happen if he felt it needed to. I imagine he is waiting for he absolute height of hype for the fight to emerge. But I think that may have already happened and gone. Best I see them hoping for is doing it after GSP beats Condit and Silva beats Sonnen. If those happen, that would be the best chance they are going to get from here on out IMO.
