A greater work rate. That is the only attribute that Aaron Pryor had over Roberto Duran, though not by much if you think about it. In everything else Duran was better. That means Duran would have coped with the almost non-stop swarming tactics of Pryor.

It would have been an exciting battle but not really close. Duran, I feel, would have stopped Pryor in the middle to late rounds or scored a convincing points victory.

I too think Duran would stop Pryor. Anyone trying to swam and stay in Duran's range isn't likely to last the entire fight. But it could be the FOTY and if there were a list of the 10 most desirable fights that were never made, I'd have this fight on it.

 

This is my take exactly! Duran (one of not many who could) would make Pryor pay for his offenseive openess and wild mechanics.

 

John as an 80s guy, like yourself, I feel that Aaron gets overrated a little these days. He was one of the most exciting fighters of the decade and had a lot to his game but he ruled a weak division and beat a guy whose best years were 2-3 divisions below. Pryor and his handlers took few risks with his career and got a superfight when the dice were loaded (just like his water bottle).

I rate Pryor as a great fighter and very entertaining one but he wasted punches, often got dropped and slowed down later on (well he had to when you consider all the energy he wasted).

Now I read threads about him beating Duran or Leonard! If Roberto had stopped off at 140 before beating Leonard I doubt we'd be having these conversations. Leonard's sharp, fast, accurate punches would have bounced Pryor off the canvas.

 

Finally someone who sees it EXACTLY as i do. Leonard would have kicked his ass and Duran would be a nightmare. He and Curry weren't too far from fighting and the best version of Curry would have been too much. He overwhelms the majority of fighters, but when the names reach the pinnacle things flatten out somewhat. I think Chavez would be a great foil too. People with excellent chins, stamina and able to make one pay for average mechanics.

 

Phew...nice to know it's not just me...

 

Duran by a spectacular ko in the 14th round of a very close fight. It would be wild as hell, but Duran would be turned on by it and would have that extra spark in his arsenal to catch Pryor late and finish him off in spectacular fashion.

 

Whatta humdinger of a fantasy fight! I'd pay twice what I'm shillin' out tonight to see Calzaghe vs.B-Hop, to see Duran and Pryor face-off.

It's a fight fan's wet dream.

More than their skills or talents, (which were awesome) both were caged animals, from the opening bell. (When I first saw Duran from ringside at Madison Square Garden in '69, I thought a homicidal maniac had been let loose)

That kind of intensity clashing guarantees an H-bomb. I sure as hell would like to be at ground zero.

 

Probably Duran by a point or two in a decision verdict, but Aaron would see him to the canvas at least once.

 

who did Pryor ever beat ? old Cervantes and a cheat over a well past his prime Arguello , whom was always a vulnerable fighter at every stage of his career .

I've never considered Arguello as vulnerable.

 

I'll go for Duran to break him down, he might of had trouble with movers sometimes but Pryor would be right in front of him.

 

Both were great offensively, Pryor more energetic, Duran more variety... the difference is in their defense, Pryor was too open, he wasn`t hard to tag clean, Duran`s defense was very good, he`d slip a lot of Pryor`s shots & make him pay.

Duran by decision in a great action fight.
