How in the hell did the WBC convince Floyd "belts don't mean ****" Mayweather to give them 50,000 dollars for a worthless ass diamond belt? I didn't see a thread for this yet.

So the WBA and WBC are both dipping into the pot for this one. If Floyd wins a diamond belt, does that make him a super champion for the WBA?:patsch

Probably the WBC put pressure on Golden Boy Promotions somehow...

No, the fight will be for the WBA belt. I have no idea why the Diamond Belt will be on the line. That belt is worthless. I would think that Roger and Floyd would have enough appreciation for the history of the sport not to want any part of that trinket.

maybe it's because Floyd has such a liking for the WBC belts? I wouldn't have been surprised if he said Cotto can keep the WBA belt (or lose it like Shane did since Floyd didn't want to pay for it). But it's not like a Silver Belt(interimish?) that would lead to Canelo and I think Floyd was made a 154 emeritus after he beat Oscar and retired. It's hard to keep track.

Think about it gents. It will be the first and only one of its kind. He likes that kind of ****. He truely believes that he is one of kind and that belt will represent something else that sets him apart. Plus Ill bet that if he gets that belt, there will be fighters who will want one are one better. Just goes to show that Mayweather is an inovator and a trend setter and is setting a new standard once again.

Mayweather wouldn't be the only or first fighter to get a WBC Diamond Belt ... Pacquiao won it first vs Cotto and I believe Sergio Martinez currently holds a WBC Diamond title as well

" and I think Floyd was made a 154 emeritus after he beat Oscar and retired. It's hard to keep track."

that's true, if I'm not mistaken.

^ why is it a shocker? Granted Floyd didn't pay the fees for the Mosley fight, but Floyd's never won a WBA title before, and at this stage, why not pony up the fees? with a win it's more hardware, plus he wins a belt in a sanctioning org (WBA) he's never won in

I wish Mayweather would have paid for Mosley's WBA title and not for the WBC diamond 154 title. Other than that, Mayweathers' title runs are all legit and lineal, surprising for today's era. No "International" or "Interim" or regional titles.

This can only mean one thing. COTTO IS THE MAN! Martinez got his as a "don't sue us" afterthought so it doesn't count. Cotto is the common denominator here. :yep

It's business I'm sure, $ IS NOW A PROMOTER and even though belts lost credibility what's a young up and coming contender with out a shot at a belt? It's all politics to get in good with the commissions and get his fighters in the ranks ya dig?
