Brett Stewart deserves an apology from alot of people... he is a ****ing mongoloid and a manly **** but the poor guy was assumed guilty from the word go. Gallop is an ******* and should be thankful he wasnt sued to the buggery

Though there some utter grubs in the game, i really hate this idea that footballers have to be nice people. the brett seymour thing particularly really annoyed me. "footballer gets pissed and has fun" whhhoooooaaa!!! big story there!!!

Gallop is a weak man who was under pressure to clean up the game and when the Stewart incident occurred Gallop decided to make an example of him.

First it was because he'd "brought the game into disrepute" (based on the claims of the girl which he was found innocent of later in court). Once he was found not guilty, all of a sudden Gallop changed his tune and said Stewart had been stood down because he had brought the game into disrepute by "being drunk at Manly's season launch". There are varying accounts of Stewart's state at said season launch - the papers said he was so drunk he'd been asked to leave, barstaff said there was no such concern and he'd left of his own accord, not because he'd been asked to.

Then the unfair treatment of Stewart was put down to the fact he was the face of the NRL that season - so was Benji Marshall last year when he was accused of assault and later cleared. Marshall wasn't stood down or removed as the face of league.

Inglis and Bird were not stood down and/or publicly disowned by Gallop over their charges despite Bird's attempt to blame his flatmate and Inglis' claim he was stopping his g/f from harming herself. Bird was basically sent away and told to be patient as a contract with the Titans was waiting for him once the bad publicity had died down.

What Stewart copped on and off the field for the accusation was no problem - sledging is sledging. What mattered was that the bloke who is supposed to be his big boss publicly disciplined and disowned him in a kneejerk reaction to the allegations and never made any amends to him for it. When you're in a situation like that, not playing and wondering if you're going to jail because of the accusations of a ****ed up little girl and her gold-digging father, a bit of moral support from the people who run your company - the people you looked up to and respected as your managers for a long time - goes a long way.

I still think Stewart would have been going through hell even if Gallop allowed him to play.

Regarding the conflicting reports on whether he was drunk or not...bar staff will always say stuff like that, simply to cover their own arse as they dont want to be exposed as serving intoxicated people more alcohol. Same thing happened with Jason Taylor when he got smacked out. He got a written letter from the barman saying he wasnt intoxicated, yet later on Taylor sent a photo of himself when he got home and he was off his ****ing head.

It wasn't that he wasn't playing, it was the fact that Gallop had publicly overridden Manly's decision to field Stewart in the first round of the season, thereby disciplining Stewart for someting he was not guilty for.

Gallop did not do that to Benji Marshall, Greg Bird or Greg Inglis.

Then came his injuries that kept him out of the game for almost 2 whole seasons, which I'm sure his state of mind had a part to play in.

Now you're down to arguing over whether he was drunk or not - I mentioned it because it was the last straw Gallop grabbed after already using the "game into disrepute" excuse. At the end of the day, Gallop was reduced to clutching at straws to excuse why he treated Stewart the way he did.

Gallop did major wrong by Stewart - prior to the incident they'd had a good relationship, so Stewart felt extremely let down by him, as would anyone subjected to such an experience.

the difference between benji and stewart was all public perception... the minute a woman is involved suddenly all bets are off and you may as well be Hitler whether your guilty or not

Stewarts PR people also handled it badly... he didnt make a statement to defend himself and that made ever more people point the finger at him... but im sure that wasnt his choice
