Prime Vs. Prime: Larry Holmes Vs. Evander Holyfield

I dont think leon spinks was as bad as holmes made him look. Holmes was so very sharp at his best. He landed so many shots, a much cleaner puncher than riddick bowe was on his best night beating holyfeild. Its kind of a no brainer IMO its like asking does Holyfeild beat a better version of the man who handed him his first loss? Evander is very brave but hes not outfighting or outboxing Holmes.

 

I think Evander is being sold short here... I could certainly see a peak Holy beating Holmes. Holmes too often like to get into a war and be stationary... that isn't the plan against Holy.. and holy would win those exchanges. Obviously, nobody is knocking out the other.. but I could see a Holy victory or a Holmes victory

 

Holyfeild is better than a lot of fighters prime Holmes beat. The thing is prime Holyfeild was busted up pretty bad beating an old Holmes. with a better workrate, better reactions and sharpness Holmes lands so many more punches on evander than he did as an oldman with more whip and snap. Holmes was without his entire arsenal and did very well pacing himself but however he tricked his way through it this was a shadow of the man who shutout most of his chalengers at his best. evander would have his moments but I think holmes would just have too much size, boxing and brawling for evander.

 

Larry Holmes by a very close decision. Great fight.

 

A prime Holmes would make Holyfield look worse than he ever has,
